Mayo -
“We’re always interested in getting the best players on our team,” Mayo said, per MassLive’s Mark Daniels. “Whatever that looks like. Look, we’re third on the waiver wire as well. There will be some quality players that get released for various reasons and we’ll have an opportunity to improve our roster. So, if you’re going to sit there and ask me ‘Would we take a big player no matter what position?’ Absolutely. Absolutely. Not only today, but in the future.”

Red Sox expected to be largely IN BIG at the deadline
“Teams who have spoken to the Red Sox have heard the team is largely focused on pitching — both rotation adds and bullpen help — and a right-handed hitter, preferably one who can contribute at multiple positions,” McAdam wrote in a column published Sunday.
BRESLOW CLIP
According to ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan, the Red Sox brass still isn't sure which direction to go at the deadline. So Craig Breslow and company are looking to travel in both lanes and will attempt to be both buyers and sellers at the July 30 deadline.
"There are dueling thoughts within the organization that run into direct conflict with one another," Passan wrote Tuesday. "On one hand, the Red Sox have overachieved, so pushing some chips into the middle would reward a group that warrants such. On the other, they'll soon transition to a younger core, with Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel and Kristian Campbell all almost big league-ready, and in the AL East, it pays to have one eye as much on the future as the other is on the present.
"The Red Sox will be busy. They just might be the sort to nibble on the margins both ways," Passan added.
But according to Alex Speier in of The Boston Globe, the Red Sox "haven't ruled out the possibility of dealing away high-end rental players such as Kenley Jansen, Nick Pivetta, or Tyler O'Neill."
James Paxton - 4.43 ERA with LA in 2024

Left handed Reliever with swing and miss stuff
Rosenthal mentioned Garrett Crochet and Erick Fedde of the White Sox, Zach Eflin of the Rays, Yusei Kikuchi of the Blue Jays and Jack Flaherty of the Tigers as some of the pitchers the Red Sox could pursue.
Another potential option? Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox have talked to Chicago about a trade for Taillon. Boston isn’t alone, though, as the Yankees have also reportedly talked to the Cubs about Taillon, who pitched for New York in 2021-22 before signing a four-year, $68 million deal with the Cubs. The 32-year-old has recorded a 3.10 ERA over 93 innings for Chicago in 2024.

- Cocain Sharks
Sharks have tested positive for cocaine off Brazil’s coast, according to a new scientific study.
Scientists with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation tested 13 Brazilian sharpnose sharks who all tested positive for the drug, and 12 out of the 13 also tested positive for benzoylecgonine, cocaine’s primary metabolite.
During the research, Hird said sharks were "tuned up. They were on full alert, ready to go, looking, looking, looking." He said while the sharks did go into hunting mode, there was no increase in aggressive behavior.
As for how dangerous this could be for humans, Hird says the sharks are more of a danger to themselves than to people.
"If cocaine made sharks hyper and didn't put them to sleep, my personal belief would be that it would make them much more skittish. And the loud noises, things like divers in the water splashing, — all that kind of stuff — it's actually going to drive them away because it's going to act as a deterrent," he said.
