You’re a bonafide knucklehead if you have a problem with Lebron owning the Red Sox
Last week it was reported that Lebron and his business partner Maverick Carter invested into the Boston Red Sox and 1/2 New England gave it the old “ah Fuck that fucking cock suckah.” To which I would reply, you’re an idiot.
First of all the Sox were owned by like the most racists cock suckah’s in New England for 100 years. Also, they never won shit. Then Moe, Larry, and Curley got their hands on it with the Fenway Sports Group and wouldn’t ya know they won 4 World Series in 14 years. Pretty incredible right? Lebron has won 4 championships by himself. Just sayin.
For me it’s not necessarily about the ownership. The Stooges have spent money. They have had a lot of money and they spent it and they brought a lot of success to the team. Can never take that away from them. But, does anyone really have a strong attachment to this team? Look, I know Kraft is probably unfair to compare to but we associate as much success the Patriots have had with Mr. Kraft as Belichick and Brady. Rightfully so. He is a hometown boy who dragged his home town team out of the gutter to become global icons. I would also say that as Celtics fan we have an affiliated with Wyc. Wyc Grousbeck is also a Massachusetts native who was a fan and still is today. Maybe to a fault. So do you have to be a local? John Henry is from Illinois. He owned the Marlins before buying the Sox with Werner who is from NYC and was part owner of the Padres and Lucchino is Mars.
Or maybe you just shouldn’t be creepy and wildly over sensitive to your PR image. Looking at you Boston Globe. Some say that Lebron and Maverick being the first and only owners of the Red Sox is a PR move. Whatever it is. Wouldn’t surprise me. Doesn’t matter now. Lebron is in the building at that’s a good thing.
As mentioned before, the Red Sox lack buzz. Hell. Baseball lacks buzz. Lebron doesn’t. Tune into ESPN day or night and literally any segment Skip Bayless has done in the past 10 years. The guy is a magnet and has been his entire life. Now, I don’t know how big of a role he will play here. Probably not very big. We know he has about 2% ownership stake in Henry’s other favorite son, Liverpool Futbol Club. Either way it doesn’t matter. If Lebron is attached he is an attraction to business and to on the field players. The “Boston is racist” thing clearly isn’t going away. And it doesn’t matter how true or untrue it is. Perception is reality. And Perception is Boston is racist. That doesn’t help your cause trying to bring in new talent. Ya know what does? “Hey you would be working for Lebron James.”
