Why Won’t Tua Call it Quits

The talk of the NFL for week 2 has been about Tua Tagovailoa. Should he keep playing or call it a career after his latest concussion.

Another scary image if you’re a Dolphins fan is seeing Tua laid out like that. How many more of these images will it take for family and friends to tell Tua to hang it up. I saw some message boards saying he’s Samoan and his culture doesn’t allow him to quit. I don’t think Samoan’s would think less of Tua after seeing him like this. So, why isn’t he retiring?

Well, in his contract Tua will lose all of his money if he retires. Which after signing that massive extension in the offseason, $212 million ($167 million guaranteed) would be a lot to walk away. But there’s a loop hole in it.

Tua is off to see a neurologist this week and if the neurologist tells him his brain has taken a lot of hits and he is at a health risk to end up seriously injured, the doctor can tell him he can’t play anymore and than Tua will get his contract fully paid. Meaning,

So hopefully for Tua’s sake the neurologist tells him he can’t play anymore. It would be a scary situation to see Tua take the field once again after this last hit.
