Joint practices began with the Philadelphia Eagles this week and this is when you can start to gage what kind of roster you have and how you are going to stack up in the standings this season. From every video and bear writer report I’ve read and listened to from just the first day of practices, Coach Vibe and crew look absolutely lost.
Where do you want to begin? The secondary, where 2nd year player Christian Gonzalez looks as he has taken a step back this year coming back from injury. Doesn’t have that dawg in him, something every great cornerback in the league has?
The distraction that is Matthew Judon is glaring. Love him or hate him, one thing is for sure. Belichick would not let this side show that Judon is putting on. What do we gain with keeping him here? Will he give us 2-3 more wins? Probably not. Mayo and Wolf should trade him to the highest bidder because as great as Judon is, all he will be is a distraction until he gets paid.
The Patriots 1st rounder isn’t ready. If Drake Maye played in a 7v7 league he would shine but during 11v11 he has some work to do. Greg Bedard of Boston Sports Journal said that Maye struggled against the Eagles defense to even go as far as to say he looked bad. Maye is the future but from accounts he shouldn’t see the field at all in 2024, as he needs to get acclimated to the NFL and the playbook. But the worst grouping of all is the 5 up front protecting our most valuable position, the O-Line.
We have been barking how during the offseason they did, and still haven’t, addressed the gaping hole that is Left Tackle. They are throwing guys in at the position and hoping one of them can figure it out. Right now, week 2 in the preseason, no one has stuck. Maye was sacked 6/9 (nice) drop backs during 11v11. Another reason why the future should sit, if he plays he will get injured. All in all this team is going to be really really bad. Here’s to 2025 when the front office gets it foot out of their ass and addresses needs and not just resign all of our own guys.
