The Celtics Got Rid of the Elephants in the Room

Before free agency started Celtics fans knew that changes had to be made. Some fans thought adding instead of subtracting was the way to go since the Celtics fell 1 game short of going back to the finals. So when the Celtics traded the “heart and soul” of the team in Marcus Smart for Kristaps Porzingis, most fans wanted the flags around New England lowered to half staff. The other fans knew exactly what Brad Stevens was doing.

In every day life businesses have goals if you don’t achieve them you change up the roster. If you have bright young kids that look to be the best in your company you promote them after showing you they can handle it. That’s exactly what Brad Stevens did when he got rid of Marcus Smart. The voice of the locker room that while he was here average 10 pts 3 rebounds and 4 assists (and people want this guys jersey hung in the rafters). The time had come to let him go and officially let it be the Jay’s locker room. If you want to build a championship team you need it to be your best players teams and that is those two, not Marcus Smart and not Grant Williams. Guys on the team need to fall into their roles and not assume since they are here that they deserve the spot light.

Brad Stevens did something that Danny Ainge was scared to do while he was here and that is ship out players to shake up the locker room. Myself and the other two cohosts of Simple Minds Sports applaud what Brad did and getting back draft capital in the process. Moving forward with what they have for this season gives them a better show of reaching banner 18 rather than running it back. Show the squad that failure around here could mean another shake up.
