Brayan Bello - Future

In the beginning on the 2023 season I think it’s agreed all around this season was going to be a building year. I say building because I didn’t see this team and go, “Eh, it’s a wash” so to speak.

If that was the case, why sign Yoshida that’s looking like a rookie of the year candidate? Why sign Jansen? Because this is a year to see where the team stands and to see where they need to go. So many middle infield prospects, pitchers waiting to be called, and several moves to make with aging players, young guns, and others on one-year deals.

Enter Brayan Bello. 19th ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization. Based on scouting report good but not great three pitches of fastball, change-up, and slider all ranked at 55 with a 50 control. (Score goes 20-80 in measurements of 5).

Kluber is on the IL but he has been a disaster. Sale has had his moments this year, but he’s hurt. Paxton a free agent after this year. And Bello got the call.

He’s already pitched more innings than those three veterans. Then add that GM Bloom has been skimpy on the luxury tax. It’s without question the Red Sox needed starting pitching to come up and give this team a little life. And unlike pre-season expectations, they are watchable. With Bello being a cause for that.

His WHIP is down, and he’s eating innings. With Alex Cora letting him get close to 100 pitches are so which is important. Not saying sky in the limit. But Bello is a piece of this team moving forward. Have faith.

12 starts / 66 innings / ERA 3.27

Not bad for a call up that was hoping to get a better role on the team. Because the talent is there. Take him over at least half of the rotation this year as well.
