The Celtics are a Top 3 team in the East
Fair warning. I’ve been heavy on the Koolaide this morning. Have a sip it tastes fan-fucking-tastic.
That Celtics were a top 10 offense last season despite being walking bags of dog shit for long stretches. Please check the index for J as to why. Not much has changed. You want to give me Kemba and his 19.3 pts and 30 games missed? Nah. Schroeder can pick up a big chunk of that and the complimentary pieces are here. I’m not telling you there are going to be better offensively as a team necessarily, although Ime has promised more movement and the addition of Horford will help with that. The roster is void of consistent scoring outside of the Jays, but what I’m telling you is that with a top 10 offense and Tatum you’re good enough. Because, your defense should be far superior.
Last season the Celtics finished in 15th for team defense. Woof. Trader Brad made it clear that was going to change this season. The additions of Richardson, Horford, Schroeder upgrade you defensively at Guard, Forward, and Center. Add one time ALL- NBA defender Marcus Smart in the mix. Plus the versatility of Jaylen Brown, the very underrated plus defender in Tatum, and rim protecting Rob Williams who averages more block shots and missed shots. This team should lock shit down.
Allow me also to remind you that this team rosters Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Both still on an upward trajectory in their young careers, both all stars, both capable of averaging 25 maybe 30 points. People forget the leap Jaylen Brown made in the short few months from the bubble to the 2020 season. He was their best player to start the year averaging 28 points a night. At one point she was shooting 87% from mid range. Put some respect on his name.
As far as Jayson Tatum goes, I’ve been the biggest wet blanket on this kid for years. I was the one dubbing him a “budding” superstar as everyone in New England told me he was Kobe. RIP. A couple crucial turnovers in the Bubble and a shitty 2020 and we are all in agreement right? “Budding”. Well, guess what? This year the butterfly busts out of the cocoon. Tatum won’t peak this year. That’s still to come, but he will officially cement himself as one of the best players in the league. This is a focused Tatum on a refreshed team and roster with a new coach that he is familiar with and a new voice from the side lines. I have extremely high expectations for Jayson Tatum this year.
A quick look at the competition. I concede the Celtics will not be better than the defending champion Bucks. On paper. And probably record wise. But, in a 7 game series the Celtics give them a run. Of course the Nets and their one “Kyrie save the Sahara Dust Fart” away from a dumpster fire are better than the Celtics. Durant has proven to be the best player in the world. He is unstoppable right now. If Harden can stay healthy and Kyrie doesn’t tear down the fabric of their team with his self righteous, egotistical, nonsensical, utter fucking bullshit, they are favorites to come out of the East.
Now it gets dicey. Many have the Heat over the Celtics here. I’ll admit it’s close, but people are underestimating the C’s. I don’t like the Celtics chances in a series agains the Heat because this is a squad of bullies. Up to this point the young Celtics have not taken kindly to bullies. But talent for talent? Jayson Tatum is the best player in that series. Jimmy Butler should be 2nd, but I’ll let Jaylen Brown be your huckleberry here. I’m on record saying Brown has a better year than Butler. Suck my eggs haters.
I get talent doesn’t win ball games and I need to look at matchups and the bigger picture. In reality Miami may be better. I’m just saying this is an exercise to show you the Celtics are clearly god damn superior and you’re a bonafide knucklehead for thinking differently. I repeat. Suck my eggs haters.
The 76ers will forever be a choking dog franchise. Ben Simmons is the most overrated player in recent NBA history and is derailing their season before it starts while Embid pleads his case through instagram tears. #trusttheprocess
Don’t get me started on the rest of the East. The Knicks can kick rocks. Look at that desperate attempt to stay in the headlines of a line up and tell me with a straight face they will be better than Celtics, Heat, Bucks, and Nets. You can’t. The Trae Young Hawks are exactly that. Trae Young can carry you far, but not that far. They caught lightening in a bottle last year and the conditions were ripe. Bulls have to prove it and Pacers and Hornets lack the talent.
So there you have it. Flawless execution on the fundamental cornerstones for the Celtics finishing as a top 3 team in the East. See you in June, bitches. Sip sip.
