I’m Happy to be Mad about the Patriots again
Week 1’s loss to the Dolphins is tough to swallow. Fumbling it away at the 5 yard line on your way to taking the lead with 3 minutes left? Woof. It had me ripping off muted obscenities in front of my baby daughter, draining a cold one, and then slouching in my chair, face in my palms. We’ve all been there. The thing is, I haven’t been there in about 11 months.
Last season with Cam Newton and that wretched roster that game and that outcome was fully expected. After a month of Cam drilling Sweet Feet’s sweet feet and failing to convert in critical moments it was just a fore gone conclusion the Patriots were losing games like that. Well, all it took was about 2 1/2 quarters for me to get that unnatural expectation of this team back in my plums. The blueish hue was back and ready for market!
Watching Mac Jones sling the ball around the yard and pick up 3rd down after 3rd down with big time throws gave me the vapors! I’m not going down the “it looked like Brady” out there, but I could see a little Brady out there. Regardless of the particulars, by the time Tua threw that bone head INT I had fully convinced myself that Tua was going to throw a bone head INT. Because, it was no longer the Covid Cam Patriots. T’was new day. Until the fumble. Fuck!
So, save me the moral victory. There is no such thing after you drop $250 million on the table in Free Agency and draft a QB #15 over all who looks like Johnny freaking Unitas out there. It’s going to be a very tight division race all season and you just dropped a game to a division opponent. Since when did Patriot’s fans become Green Teamers? Oh and speaking of Brady. Don’t think for one second that him leaving and winning his 7th Super Bowl is not motivating factor for which Belichick and the team should be judged. It’s winning time in New England.
I love how Mac looked too but this was an ugly loss. Belichick needs to take some heat for a team that looked unprepared. Eight penalties for 84 yards including some drive killers is just ridiculous. Four fumbles including the one that pissed the game away. Week 1 or week 11 this is the NFL. They all count. Again, Fuck!
Honestly, I’m happy to feel again.
