Red Sox All Star Victory
What a great stretch for the Red Sox the last few days. I’ll make it short and sweet here but let's start off by naming this teams three All Stars.
Rafael Devers - 3B
Jarren Duran - OF
Tanner Houck - SP
Devers not competing, but he has proven once again how 3rd base has been and will be in good hands for some time. Especially against the Yankees. Which is important for many fans.
Duran hit a home run in his first All Star game and took home the MVP! One of the top position players in the American League by WAR made the team and took home MVP. I’ve been saying it for a while but he should be here to stay. He’s settled in for the best.
Houck. He had a rough outing… But let’s be positive. It was infield hiccups and Ohtani at the plate. Although, he made it here and I think he should continue to dominant the rest of the way.
These three guys are a part of why the AL Wild Card spots are obtainable. The last two years looked bleak and now, there’s a chance that they could make the playoffs and it could be a clean slate. It’s where Alex Cora brings the guys together and the atmosphere changes. It’s next man up and they could pull something.
Think about this. Is this team afraid of Houston? The Yankees? The Guardians? The Orioles maybe, but that just confirms if they make that it’s a legit shot. And if the reason why not is because of the bullpen, track back to the 2019 Nationals. That bullpen wasn't great.
Next up, Little Papi!
David Ortiz’ son D'Angelo Ortiz in the 19th round got drafted by the Red Sox.
For those who don’t keep up, the draft used to be 40 rounds. However after the minor leagues gutted due to many politics I will jot get into, it’s now at 20. Now this isn’t a cute gesture. Many players used to have their sons drafted in the very late rounds. But with the draft in half, this is taken seriously. They view Big Papi's son as a legitimate 3rd Base and Outfield prospect. Where will he go from here? Anyone’s guess really.
Better yet, Lucas Ramirez son of Manny was drafted in the 17th round by the Angels as an Outfield and 1st Base prospect. Only time will tell.
Scouting reports for the potential second generation players will hopefully come soon. In the meantime, what a turn around. From no hope and bottom of the division expectations to being one of the three AL East teams making the playoffs. Sounds good in Boston right about now. Not waiting for September or October to come around too quickly which is nice.
