Jayson Tatum needs to remove his head from Duke’s ass
Hey! Growing popular opinion. Jayson Tatum is not a Super Star. And may be an actual problem. Let me just get this out of the way. TOOT! TOOT!
The term “Budding” Superstar was dubbed for Tatum last year because all of Boston wanted to give this kid the keys to the city, but I had to pump the breaks. My concerns on the court had to do with the lack of touch and finish he had in the paint and around the rim. Also, the inability to close. Also showing off his wing span any time someone breathed on him. Well, there is no doubt that Tatum has gotten better as a player on the court, but he has not improved those areas I mentioned nearly enough. Don’t believe me? go look at how many FT’s he shoots a game vs how many FT’s he thinks he should shoot a game.
All that is a little besides the point. This is being written on the heels of what was probably Tatum’s worst game as pro. Six points against the Wizards. The worst team in the league. More to the point, the body language and effort was embarrassing. And unfortunately for Tatum this is turning into more of a pattern than an anomaly. When things aren’t going his way we see a pout where we would like to see a grimace. And let us never forget the Dukie factor. The entitled, soft, front running stank that comes with being an alumni of Duke University. Someone tell me what Jayson Tatum has ever had to fight hard for or over come the odds for? I hoped the Celtics aura and culture could shake the Duke out of him but, Yikes, I’m nervous
So what does this all mean? It means Tatum is still “budding” and there should be doubts about him as THE guy on a championship team. We have seen this player across the NBA 100’s of times. Uber talented, but do you have “IT”? How big are your balls and what is your motivation to win? Tatum wants to be KOBE? Look, If losing doesn’t drive you crazy enough to like stab an Uber driver, than you are no Kobe. I’m just worried that Jayson Tatum gives too little of a shit to commit senseless assualt over a mid season loss.
P.S. It took Paul Pierce like 10 years and Kevin Garnett to stop being a pud, so I guess we can just be patient? Ugh
