Patriots vs. Jets: Turning Points and Takeaways

TURNING POINTS:

  • Zack Wilson showed up

Lets be honest. Zack Wilson is the biggest reason the Patriots won the game. Sure, give credit to the defense. The secondary was blanketing the Jets receivers, specifically Christian Gonzalez on last year’s OROY Garrett Wilson. But, would have mattered if they didn’t? Zack Wilson has dipshit google on. They sit just below his douchebag Cobra Kai headband. Joe Neimath called Zack Wilson “disgusting” and I couldn’t agree with him more.

  • Ryland FG 3 - 0. First lead for Pats in 2023

The Patriots first drive ended in a field goal giving them their first lead of the season. Honestly, it felt out of reach for the Jets at this point.

  • 58 Yard TD Pharaoh Brown

What do ya know? You get the run game going and run a simple play action releasing an unsuspecting TE and it turns into what will probably be the longest TD of the season. All kidding aside the offense looked fairly legit in the 1st quarter. You’re a missed PI penalty away from heading into the half with 17 points.

  • Matthew Judon safety

In a game the offense showed promise in the first half they shit the bed again trying to close out a game. That was left up to the defense yet again. (Who also almost blew it). The Judon sack for a safety was the nail in the coffen. Or at least it should have been. The hail mary had no business being that close, but welcome to Patriots football post Brady

TAKEAWAYS:

  • The Offense can be good enough, but needs to learn how to close.

Everyone have belabored the point that there is very little talent from the pass catching positions on this team. That is obvious. It’s their biggest problem. That doesn’t mean that have to completely puke on their shoes on every late 3rd down conversion.

I’ve given Mac and the offense a lot of rope to start this season. Everyone wants to talk about the fact that they are averaging less point this year than last year. Well, numbers are dumb. The 2022 Patriots through 3 games averaged 16.3 points and were 1-2. The 2023 Patriots have averaged 17.3 points in the first 3 games and are 1-2. The difference is last year looked fucking hopeless and wildly dysfunctional. Like a ape trying to shit on a toilet. This year at least it looks like there is potential for a professional operation. If they ever found some speed they could even be considered good?

  • Christian Gonzalez is good

Zack Wilson or no Zack Wilson the tape tells us that Garrett Wilson had a Gonzo blanket on him all day. Five catches on nine attempts for 48 yards including a garbage time 28 yard catch.

  • The Patriots are guaranteed a minimum TWO wins this year

I don’t care if it came down to a hailmary. The Jets SUCK. All because of Zach Wilson and that inept offense. Bring out the brooms. It’s a sweep for Belichick over NYJ, again. Sixteen straight wins for the Pats over the Jets

  • The offense took their foot off the gas in the second half. The play calling was conservative. It felt like Belichick knew he could win it with out scoring another point. That’s not what this offense needs. It lead to an abysmal string of penalties in the 3rd quarter and too big of a momentum mountain to climb to close the game. That and JuJu freaking BLOWS!

  • The Patriots have nine more very winnable game on the schedule based on what we’ve seen from these teams so far. Saints, Raiders, Commanders, Colts, Giants, Chargers, Steelers, Broncos, Jets. I’d even throw the Cowboys on the list and get back to me week 8 when Tua’s out again. Toot toot. I called 10 wins minimum for this team, but that will not happen with out at least gradual improvement from the offense week to week.
