OBJ coming to the Pats
It just makes too much sense. A distressed asset, someone else is paying, in a position of need? The Belichick special. And make no mistake this is an area of need. Quick question, you replace Nelson Agholor with OBJ do you have more production from that position? I’ll help. Yes. Not to mention the lack of depth. If and when Agholor, Bourne, or Myers goes down how much faith do you have in N’Keal Harry stepping up. I’ll help again. None.
Beckham has certainly been less than impressive in Cleveland over the past couple years. He’s battled Injuries, his own shitty attitude, a less than competent QB, and most importantly the over whelming mountain of misery that is The Cleveland Browns. In spite of all that you and I both know he still better than what you currently have on the depth chart. Does that mean he will be successful here? No. We’ve seen countless WR’s come in and fail. This is a different team though. Tom Brady’s calculous courses have been tamed down to Algebra 2 at best. Still no guarantee, but worth a shot.
It would be silly not to mention the biggest question mark that revolves around these types of players that leave on poor terms. Their commitment and team chemistry. OBJ certainly has his other interests outside of football and has been no stranger to a camera or a mic in his career. However, now he is fighting for that career. Randy Moss would know better than anyone the position he is in and what a stint with the Patriots could do for him. This was his remark on MNF broadcast.
” … You talk about this as his last chance. I remember them talking about me going into my 10th year, ‘This is my last chance.’ This is the reason I’m talking about the New England Patriots. They have a young stud in Mac Jones; Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick being able to keep his mind right.”
The last point I’ll make here is the position the Patriots find themselves in. They are 1/2 back of the division in a conference that is wide open. There is no real front runner. They are winning with a rookie QB and playing with some house money. That does not mean you take it for granted and think the years to come will be even better. Do not pull a Red Sox and fail to invest in a team with real potential. This is a cheap low risk move to better your team in an area of need. Pull the trigger.
