Yamamoto Sweepstakes
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is finally coming to America. The Red Sox will be one of the five teams he will meet with to discuss being a Red Sox player and of course the dollar amount. But there’s a catch. We do not know the correct order, but it is confirmed he is meeting with the Yankees first.
Not awful. If Henry and company have a brain, they exceed the Yankees price tag. Keep in mind however, the salary for this year and the 20M posting fee will both be on the books for 2024. I estimate that’s around 40M-50M hit for this year alone.
Starting pitching is a must need for the Red Sox as Bello and Sale cannot due it alone. There are other candidates, however can they get to the 5th inning consistently? Not 6th, 5th. There is a reason why the Red Sox has so many years of depleted bullpens. The starters need to go 6 innings.
Not for nothing, these pitchers need to see if they can go 6 innings and 90-100 pitchers regardless who they face. The lineup is capable of 5+ runs a game no matter what, now it’s time for the pitchers to back it up. Yamamoto can be the answer at the #3 spot and I think that is satisfactory. More to do, but it’s a start to a very slow off-season as most moves are still to come and it will be almost Christmas.
