Mac Jones is the only thing in the way of a deep playoff run for the Patriots

The Patriots are winners of 4 straight and 5 of their last 6. They are coming off the dismantling performance of a 5 - 4 Cleveland Browns team. It was dominance on both sides of the ball in the 45 - 7 ass whooping.

The defense is now ranked 2nd in the league behind only the Bills. Matthew Judon is shaping up to be Bill Belichick’s best free agent signing ever. Christian Baremore is single handily helping us forget about N’Keal Harry or Sony Michel. They are 2nd in interceptions, 4th in total turn overs, and 2nd in points per game. Frankly they’ve been solid all season and have continued to improved the past month.

Trent Brown is back and the O-Line looks the best is has all season. Is that a coincidence or a pay off for the improvements they’ve been making?! Who cares. If Brown can stay healthy the run game will continue to top the league. If he can help keep that pocket clean this offensive is in business. Kendrick Bourne is becoming a play maker, Jakobi Myers is on the TD board and continues to be the most reliable WR on the team. Hunter Henry can not be stopped in the Red Zone and the Rhamadama ding dong - Damien Harris RB combo is bruising. All that is to say this team is very good. Combine that with a lack luster AFC and they should be looking at the potential of a deep play off run. Unless, Mac Jones fucks it up.

Mac Jones has been terrific this season. Not even just as a rookie. He has been a very reliable QB who continues to improve. ESPN has Mac has the 13th ranked QB in the NFL this season with an upward trajectory still on the rise.

Mac Jones stats:

2,333 yards. 13 TDs. 7 INTs. 69% Completion . 94.1 rating and balls of steel.

However, he is still a rookie. There has never been a rookie to even start in the Super Bowl let alone win one. More to the point Mac Jones quite literally has never been tested at the hight of the NFL level. It is inevitable he will have some more bad games because everyone does. More importantly does he have the skill set to keep up with the high octane offenses? Can he lead a large come back against the best of the league? Can Mac over come his defense having a bad game? These are all real tests that history tells us rookies generally do not pass. I’m not saying Mac won’t. He is in the best position a 1st round rookie QB has been in possibly ever with the Patriots.Make no mistake though, there will come a moment maybe more than one that Mac Jones will have to elevate his game and his teammates.

For all of the 2001 Brady comparers out there that is the special quality Brady held and cultivated. He did it in his 2nd year. This Patriots team will put Mac in those positions as a rookie and it’s far from a guarantee he will be able to come through this season. I’m Just saying.
