Allow me to help. Drop your Celtics’ expectations to ZERO.
I have been saying this for 2 seasons. This Celtics team will only go as far as Jayson Tatum takes them. For some strange reason I, like most of you, still assumed the team should live up to our lofty expectations. Why? What teams with young stars as their best players ever succeed? The Oklahoma City Thunder lost handley to the Miami Heat with 3, some may say 4, young stars in Durant, Harden, Westbrook, and to a lesser degree Ibaka. The Celtics don’t even come close to that talent right now and even if they did the Thunder still lost, never made it back, and eventually blew up that core. Young teams don’t win in the NBA.
So, as fans I implore you to join me in this movement and lower the expectation of this team to where they belong. Zero. The Jays are the future and with them the Celtics may raise that 18th banner, but it aint this year and we just need to accept we have countless games in our future of inconsistent mind numbing basketball and pray they flip the maturity switch at the ripe age of 27 or 28 as so many of their NBA brethren have.
Let them collect their All-Star nods and All NBA accolades. Let them rejoice in NBA2k ratings, Dorito endorsements, and environment friendly shoe deals. Let them quabble over who’s team it is and pretend like they understand everything the world has to offer as we all once did in our youth while simultaneously knowing quite literally nothing. Their talent and teammates will be enough for some play-off action and the in-fighting will show them what a losing team looks like. All you can hope for as an NBA fan with 25 year olds leading your team is that in 3 years they grow the fuck up. Until then, it’s a whole lot of sad beers. Enjoy the ride.
P.S. In the mean time send Marcus Smart to Siberia. OR LA so he can win a ring and either motivate the Jays to win here or motivate them to force their way out. Bottoms up!
