I’ve decided to be excited about the RED SOX and you should too
Allow me to bring you up to speed.
Baseball is dead to me. The Nation’s past time and one time favorite sport of the kid here is fading into oblivion. The game is too slow and too long for the younger generations and MLB refuses to make the proper adjustments. Fast forward to 2020 and the pandemic. The sports world was put on hold. Not a single game to watch. The MLB had the opportunity to literally be the only show into town. A perfect Fourth of July start date. Instead, they bitched and bitched and bitched about money. Shocking.
The Red Sox specifically took 2020 to bury their heads in the sand after a disappointing 2019 campaign to the point where it would have been better if MLB had just cancelled the season if you’re a Red Sox fan. All that is to say, baseball is #deadtome
However!
What is dead may never die.
I’ve decided to heavily reinvest into the Red Sox. I was one of the few positive voices during spring training about this team. I’m no nerd. I had no real evidence to back up my claim, I just felt it in my plums. They proved me right. Way right. At least to start the season.
Many will say the trade deadline was a massive failure on the part of management costing the Red Sox a shot at the division. I am one of them. Their play and lack luster effort in the weeks, hell damn near a month, following the deadline debacle was almost worse. Baseball players can be such whiney bitches. In the past several weeks the team feels like it’s made a turn, though.
The Covid outbreak had a chance to bring this season to a screeching halt. With the Sox being only one of 7 teams in the MLB not to reach the Vaccine threshold they would have taken serious heat if they missed the playoffs because of it. Instead it was a lightening rod.
I’ve been screaming Dicky’s Path to the Playoffs for over a month. Win at about a .600 clip down the stretch and you’re in. How? Take 2 out of 3 from the bad teams and don’t get swept by the good teams. Well toot, toot I’ll send my consultant check down to Yawkey way, sorry Jersey Street. After taking 2 of 3 from the Mariners and a sweep of the Orioles to make it 5 straight wins the Red Sox control their destiny.
Since I laid down Dicky’s path after the Sox were swept by the Yankees in mid August their record is as follow;
Against the likes of Rangers, Twins, Indians, Mariners, and Orioles they are 13 - 5
Against the Rays and White Sox they are 4 - 6.
That’s good for 17 - 11 .647 winning percentage and you now hold a 1.5 game lead over Toronto and 2 game lead over the Yankees.
The Yankees series coming up could put a nail in their season’s coffin or at least sure up one of the wild card positions for the Red Sox with momentum clearly in Boston’s favor.
I’m just glad we have a team that we can root for again. I was worried after the deadline, but guys like Renfroe, Kike, Eovadli, Verdugo, not Iglesias. They seem to be in the middle of every big hit or play needed for a win. The big dawgs need guys like that. The attitude is infectious. It allows JD, Bogaerts, and Devers to focus on what they do best, mash. And yes, I will of course mention the emergence of Bobby Dalbec. When Alex Cora was asked about Bobby Dalbec getting the nod over Schwarber Cora had this to say;
" This is more about Bobby dalbec than anything else, Bobby has to play against every lefty."
Dalbec has 12 HRs 36 RBIs in his last 33 games.
Winning teams need guys like this. Young players who elevate their game. The Red Sox have always had guys like this in their big years. Jacoby Ellsbury, Xander Bogaerts, Andrew Benintendi. Shit, maybe Dalbec can be that guy. He’s come a long was from the Bobby Dalbec watch we had on him waiting for the Mendoza line to be crossed.
It all has me excited as a fan and you should be too. The wild card play in game is the best thing the MLB has done in years and Fenway should be front and center for it in a couple weeks. Chris Sale on the mound against a division rival in a win or go home game?! I’m in. Don’t fucking blow it.
