Playing to lose never wins

The Athletic:

The conclusion the Bruins may reach is that DeBrusk serves them best in a trade. If so, they would be trading low. No opposing general manager would put his top cards on the table. The Bruins’ best bet would be receiving a similarly underperforming player.

The other issue is the possibility of a DeBrusk explosion.

This was from a Fluto article. More or less the Bruins are afraid to trade DeBrusk because he might be good for another team. What the Fuck kind of backwards ass cowardly management style is this? Fluto goes on to cite a couple examples that apparently have Sweeney and Neely shaking in their boots.

Trades can shock young players awake to a greater degree than healthy scratches, benches and one-on-one meetings. Tyler Seguin was jolted like never before when the Bruins traded him to Dallas on July 4, 2013. The following season, Seguin became a point-per-game player for the first time in his career.

Reilly Smith, one of the players that arrived in the Seguin package, scored 51 points as a first-year Bruin. After he fell to 40 points in 2014-15, the Bruins traded Smith and Marc Savard’s contract to Florida for Jimmy Hayes. The first-year Panther rebounded to a 50-point season following the trade. Frank Vatrano, wheeled to Florida for a third-round pick, scored 24 goals in his first season in Sunrise.

I mean no body liked the Seguin trade, but that was more about the return. The point was he was not working in Boston. That’s the deal with DeBrusk. Whether it’s Boston problem or a DeBrusk problem it’s all the same outcome. Suck. What’s the alternative here? Keep shoving him on the second line so he bury 14 shots against the boards every other week?

We actually heard something similar from the owner of the Celtics Wyc Grosbeck a couple weeks back. When asked about firing Danny Ainge or Brad Stevens part of the rationale of keeping them was that they would find jobs immediatily if let go. As if to say we don’t want to look stupid letting some go and watch them be better somewhere else. Again, what the fuck? Have these people learned nothing from Belichick over the years? How many teams came into Gillette trying not to lose instead of playing to win only to piss down their leg at crunch time as Bill and Brady squeezed the life out of them stealing every last crumb to their name.

They are also missing the other side. What if the player or coach you replace said player or coach with works better? Hmm can I think of an example? Oh ya. Your coach! Bruce Cassidy taking over for Claude was one of the best decisions Sweeny made. About 2 years too late I’ll add.

You can’t play scared. Be bold. Ship DeBrusk’s ass to Phoenix where he can score 30 silent goals no one give a shit about. Bring me someone with a set between his legs and a shot.
