Give Mac a break
I haven’t seen a guy get dragged as hard as Mac Jones since Tito was given the Red Sox treatment post the “Chicken and Beer” season. I get it, the kid sucked. But, good lord he was clearly not the center piece of the problem. Mac Jones was caught up in the middle of one of the biggest power struggles in recent NFL history. He was cannon fodder in the collapse of the Roman Empire. At times an olive branch at times a message boy turned whipping boy. I wasn’t awarded the Captain of the Mac Jones club for no reason. Suck it up for the definitive list of reasons to get off Mac’s back.
Three offensive systems and coordinators in 3 years. Aka the playbooks for destroying a young quartback
In year 1 of those playbooks he was a “Pro-Bowl”, playoff starting Quarterback that lead the 6th highest scoring offense in the league. His top WR was Jakobi Myers with 83 catches and 866 yards. Not exactly Jerry Rice. Or Justin Jefferson. The rest of that receiving core looked like this: Nelson Agholor Kendrick Bourne, and N’Keal freaking Harry. Hunter Henry was their red zone threat at TE. He didn’t have dick to throw to is the point and it’s gotten worse, way worse since then.
Year 2 he had MATT PATRICIA as his OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. You know when you hear something it just doesn’t sound right? I don’t even include Joe Judge in this conversation, because he was so bad the player ousted him from the offensive film room to the land of Belichick purest purgatory. Keep sucking the teet through the cut off hoodie and you keep your job. Mac Jones was given a wrath of shit for these 3 reasons:
He suffered a severe high ankle sprain and cried about it. Then came back 3 weeks later only to be jerked around by the head coach in a Prime Time game agasint the worst team in the league in which they lost due to the said, jerking off/around. Why?
Because he sought “Outside help” from his Alabama coached when it was clear Patricia was in way over his head. He was int he Dog House for life with Belichick, because Bill just can’t admit he was wrong.
Towards the end of the season Mac Jones visible roasted his coaches twice on national TV with a side line explosion. The like of which we’ve seen from nearly ever QB at some point. One that never had to deal with Matt Patricia, Joe Judge, Bill Belichick, the QB coach and whoever else chirping at each other in his helmet as they incur another delay of game penalty.
Year 3 was the Year of Spite. We watched a broken young sole be battered down week in and week out. Surrounded by quite literally the worst offensive roster int he league by a mile, Mac Jones now learning his 3rd offense in 3 years was bench 4 times. Each time receiving the start the next week in spite of all contrary thought and speculation. Why? Bill Belichick is an asshole. Belichick had his hand forced in drafting Mac Jones, Jones had put himself in the dog house a year earlier for not fully supporting Patricia as the OC again in spite of all contrary thought agreeing with Jones including a majority of his teammates and some coaches! And we have recently learned Belichick was not given the support he would have liked from ownership to trade Mac Jones and bring in Baker Mayfield this season. So, what does the greatest football coach of all time do? He wines like a bitch and nose dives the season. Then gets to drag Mac and blame the entirety of offensive struggles since Brady left on Mac Jones. Belichick ultimately played that hand too strong and was shown the door.
Now here we are with a Head Coach in 24 years and in very first press conference, Jerod Mayo not so subtly calls his first round QB a bitch and guarantees they are drafting his replacement with the 3rd overall pick
The last reason for Mac Jones’ failure? He’s a petulant, entitled brat, who lacks the physical tools to over come poor play around him and mentally can’t handle adversity.
I’m not saying he didn’t suck (I still think you give him a year under Kirk Cousins in Minnesota and he’s a top 1/2 of the league QB). I’m not saying I want him back. I’m saying lay off the kid. He’s so doughy, so white, so pasty. He’s paid his dues and then some. He can only take so much.
