Big Papi got screwed
David Ortiz was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame on his 1st crack it or what some would call a 1st ballot hall of famer. Big Papi earned his right into the hall.
The stats:
He crossed that 500 HR mark and that pretty much sealed it, but really it was the post season performances that put him in. His heroics in 2004 are unparalleled and it just snow balled from there with 3 rings to show for it.
You want to tell me he is not a 1st ballot guy? I’ll listen. His 2,472 hits ranks 103 all time. His .286 BA puts him in the top 400, 1,768 RBIs is 23rd, and the ever important WAR at 55.3 is 154th. But again, it’s the post season that sealed it for Ortiz. Here are some more stats to get your Big Papi moving:
But, honestly he got screwed. The BBWA did David dirty. They fucked up and tainted the whole damn thing. In their last gasp attempt at saving serve they whiffed and yet again denied access to Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. That now excludes BASEBALL’s
HITS Leader: Pete Rose
HR Leader: Barry Bonds
CY Young Leader: Roger Clemens
from the BASEBALL hall of fame. The best, hitter, pitcher, and HR hitter in the game are not in it’s hall of fame. For what? Alleged steroid use that MLB practically sanctioned. Fuck outta here. Oh, P.S. Ortiz actually did test positive. It’s a tragedy and taints not only Ortiz’s nomination, but everyone from here on in.
It’s fantastic for Ortiz and awesome for Red Sox fans to see one of the greatest players in franchise history get his spot in Cooperstown, but if we’re being honest with ourselves it would have been better if it came after Clemens and Bonds.
