Dark Side of the Ring Season 3

If you grew up watching wrestling like I did then Dark Side of the Ring brings back all those childhood feels. This is the 3rd season of one of the best documentary shows on tv in my opinion. Hosted by Chris Jericho, they dive into either a wrestler or a portion of time with all the behind the scenes real life stories about the situation.

Some of my favorites have been The Macho Man, The Montreal Screw Job, Chris Benoit, The Road Warriors and the Owen Hart (One of my all time favorite wrestlers). This has no ties to the WWE which is nice so you can get the real tell from the guys and how much Vince did or did not suck at the time.

Season 3 premiered on Thursday and I have already watched part 1 and 2 on The Loose Cannon Brian Pillman. They broke down his career before wrestling. He was a standout in football and was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals. He then got cut and went to the CFL to play for Calgary. After a career ending ankle injury his strength coach introduced him to the Hart family, wrestling’s first family. I won’t ruin too much more of this, but they talk about his career from WCW as part of the Hollywood Blondes with Stone Cold Steve Austin to ECW and then finally where it ended in WWF when he was feuding with Stone Cold as a member of the Hart Family.

You only know the wrestler and you never heard about their personal life especially back in the mid 90’s where there was no internet to ruin things for you. You hear from his widow and 3 of his kids.

His wife was a piece of work! If you ever want to teach your kids about drugs and what they do to you just show them before and after photos of his wife. His two daughters seemed to go through a lot and have a lot of hate towards their former step mother.

Brian’s son, Brian Pillman Jr.’s story at the end pulled at the emotions for me. Having his dad die and thinking it was his dad playing a joke, to having an abusive step father, and mother that ignored him to do drugs, to now falling in his fathers footsteps and becoming a pro wrestler him self in AEW made me a fan after watching this.
