The future of the Patriots will be determined in the next 8 weeks

The Patriots sit at 5-4 and currently hold the 3rd wild card spot.

Most people have them finishing out the remaining schedule 4 - 4 or 3 - 5. At 9-8 you’re not guaranteed a playoff spot, but at 8 - 9 you are for sure out. Making the playoffs is certainly important, but how they get there and what they do when they get there will weigh heavily on the future of the franchise.

Of course I’m talking about Matt “Skinny Ray” Patricia and Joe Judge continuing to lead the offense. Let’s get right down to it. If this offense with Mac Jones continues to operate as the 22nd worst in the league or they get their doors blown off again in the wild card game we should expect some changes. And rightfully so.

The Offense in 2021 ranked in, around, or above top 10 in almost every category that counts. In 2022 they rank 20th or lower in the same categories. The regression and disfunction can not be ignored. It also should not be surprising. Matt Patricia is the most hated man in Detroit for what he did to that franchise as a HC. Joe Judge is referred as the QB killer from his time with the Giants who are currently kicking ass with the same QB. Neither of these buffoons have coached offense before! What in the holy fuck did we all think was going to happen? Oh, and by the way you have a 2nd year QB thrown into the mix and a manipulated QB controversy by the same jack offs picked to lead. If that’s not enough for the Krafts to intervene I know what is. Missing the playoffs or getting embarrassed again on wild card weekend.

Make no mistake this is specifically an offensive problem. It has been since Brady left and even before. They are 1 game under .500 since starting 8-0 in 2019. In that time period, 50 games, they scored over 30 points 10 times. That’s 20% of the time. The Chiefs have already score 30 points in 5 games this season. You can not keep up with the NFL elite with out the ability to hit 30 when needed. Think about the 2018 season. Patriots offense struggled until they finally went run heavy at the end of the season. But, against the Chiefs they needed to pull out a 30 pointer to win.

There are plenty of young innovative offensive minds swirling around the NFL right now. If things don’t shake out for the offense down the stretch we should expect a major change from the offensive coaching stand point. That alone would be a massive adjustment, but what does that decision do for Bill Belichick? They already diminished his duties a couple years ago with the big board on draft night. How much is old salty willing to take of this chipping away at his power. What does it do to the dynamic of the team and organization? Do we see a Brady v Belichick like split in the locker room if there is new energy and leadership on the offensive side of the ball?

However unlikely it is to happen it would just be great if Patricia could figure this shit out and have some marginal success on offense. It’s 2022. Jared freaking Goff can walk on the field and put up 30. What are we doing here? Figure it out or we’re about see some upheaval in Foxboro.
