Come to my window I'll be home soon. And the Celtics will be gone.
This is it kids. Celtics brought them all back one time one time only. Next year we are in for a shuffle a dice.
New ownership, luxury, taxes, staleness, they're gonna have to pair down this roster. They most likely going to have to do something even a little more realistically from the financial aspect. I was always thought or hoped the they would extend the pay roll through next year, but with new ownership anything on the table. Quite frankly it may be more likely they keep this core together through 2025 than if Wyc (Daddy Wyc) had kept the team.
So, we are in the championship window. This is what it feels like. I say that only to offer the advice to cherish it. We as New England Sports teams became incredibly spoiled in the Brady/ Belichick era. All four major sports were winning and competing for championships annually for 20+ years. Things are changing. Things have changed. The Patriots are currently an actual mental health crisis. The Red Sox have turned into Orioles and the Bruins just caved to a Gen Z snot nosed kid who took business classes at U Maine. Things are not what they once were. Even with the Celtics we have to wonder how long they can hold this team together.
Beyond the financial implications. Lets just talk about the team. It trust Brad Stevens to make the right moves. He has been incredible. He’s also been playing from a place of strength. Can we pull the right strings when the leverage is not always in his corner. The NBA through the Lebron era has not been known for holding on to their superstars. Lebron, KD, Kyrie, James Harden, Paul George, Russell Westbrook all MVPs or MVPS candidate type players have shot their way out of town one way or another. I’m not saying that is going to happen with Tatum and Brown, but Boston leaves a lot to be desired from the stand point of young professional athletes looking to capitalize on their brand. If the keep winning it helps tremendoulsly. But, what if there are a couple early exits in the playoffs after this window closes? I’m just saying.
And look I could be wrong about the Celtics. This window may extend. If you look at Tatum, Brown, and White. Those guys can be pillars here for 10 years at their age. But, then you look at Holiday in his mid 30s making a ton of money. Porzingus in his 30’s making a ton of money, up for a contract, and a walking ACL tear. The ageless Al wants to play into his 40s, but will he do it for the minimum and how good will he be? Or are we looking at a Udonis Haslem situation?
I guess the point of these ramblings is I’d really like to see them pull it out this year. Well, duh. For this reason. If they win 2 in a row they cement themselves in the history of the NBA as a great team. Which they should be. It would be a shame to see this team labled historically they way everyone is treating them now in real time. Soft, front running pussies. So, go out there and shove another Larry O’brien up the ass of Kendrick Perkins and the like. Because, there are more question marks than answers when it comes to the construction of this team after this season. This could be their last best chance.
