Clever story Trevor Story

Trevor Story signs with the Boston Red Sox for 6 years $140 million. You may have thought that the Sox had won the world series in March based on some of the reaction around town.

Most of the jubilee comes from Chaim Bloom finally dipping into uncles John’s pocketbook. Bloom was deep into his 3rd year of treating the Boston Red Sox like a bargain basement shopper. He needed to show he could not only find diamonds in the ruff, but also buy some big ass diamonds wide out in the open. Trevor Story fits the bill. I’m just not doing summersaults over it like Tomase

SOURCE

What matters now is this: The Red Sox didn't just keep pace in the American League East, they did so smartly, without betraying any of their values to chase a headline. Story is exactly the kind of player they needed at a fair price that only a handful of clubs could afford.

Jesus Tomase, keep it in your pants.

Trevor Story does a lot of things for this team. He shows Chaim can spend big bucks, he puts a slugging right handed bat in the line up, adds defense to the middle infield, builds morale with a team felt left behind in the arms race, give the Sox insurance when Bogarts leaves. But, he doesn’t do everything.

By the way. The idea of Story being a good replacement for Bogarts sucks. Xander Bogarts should be a Red Sox for life. He is a top short stop the same exact age as Story. He has become the face of your franchise and been nothing but a professional here at a position you have never had constancy at. He’s 2nd in WAR amongst short stops in the MLB. He took a team friendly deal 5 years ago. Now you’re planning on letting him walk just because it’s too much money? He wants to be in Boston. That is pretty rare in this day and age. Go give him his deal, now.

Is this signing being treated like the “final” piece on a world series team because the next biggest move was adding 69 year old Rich Hill to your staff? I think so. You still have .192 Jackie Bradley Jr. as your starting RF. You flamed out on Suzuki. They straight up lied about chasing Freddie Freeman . Chris Sale is hurt, AGAIN. Your closer was benched for the playoffs last year. Oh and lets not forget Trevor Story comes from Colorado. Where offensive numbers balloon like Dr. Big Mac’s Fupa on a bender. Story’s Batting Average drops 60 points away from Coors field. Nolan Arenado’s OPS dipped from 962 to 807 last year in St Louis. The Rockies have the biggest gap in home and away OPS in the majors since 1995. They are +15 at home. The Astros are 2nd with +11. Go figure.

So, if you think .270 20 Hrs and 85 RBIs is a call for championship like celebration we are just on a different page. And those stats are probably best case scenario. Chaim, thanks for finally spending the money and filling a need. Do it a couple more times before we cue the Duck Boats shall we?
