Celtics Wheel of Prizes

The offseason rumors for the NBA are hot! Players want to link up, dumpster fires are getting out of control and players are evacuating, and players just want to win a championship. Whatever the case may be, the Celtics could land a big fish. Let us look at some possibilities.

Option 1. that I am not a fan of, stay with the current roster. After last weeks blogs from us we were killed with people saying that well this team got us here. Cool, are we the Indianapolis Colts? Are we going to put a banner up that says 2 games away from winning the NBA Finals? No we are the Celtics and all we do is put up Championship banners, so for you that say run it back that is a terrible idea. We are getting older (Al Horford will be 36) and we couldn’t stay healthy (Rob Williams is the new Glass Gordon) to think we can run this squad another 82 games plus a long playoff run you are out of your mind. Plus Marcus Smart isn’t a point guard. Chances of us winning a championship with this option 20%

Option 2. Trade for a Point Guard- Malcolm Brogdon or Mike Conley. Now in order to get either you’re going to have to give back more than you think. The Pacers will not take any bum back in return, the Lakers tried to send Russell Westbrook with some other pieces to Indiana for Brogdon that they declined. Indiana has a good, not great squad but they feel they are pieces away from being contenders and don’t intend to give players away for nothing.

Mike Conley may be the cheaper target, he is 34 years old and the Jazz are currently in a dumpster fire just trying to get the flames out long enough to keep Donovan Mitchell happy. Sending an aging vet in return for some younger pieces may make the superstar happy and help us with scoring and facilitating at the point guard position. If this were to happen my money is on Conley. Chances of winning a championship with these options, 30%

option 3, the pipe dreams. Damian Lillard. This one will cost us a lot. Even if Lillard demands he wants out, I feel like Jaylen Brown would be the return. When it was heavily rumored mid season the Trail Blazers stood pat on a return package centered around Jaylen which would this make our team better? Lillard missed most of last season with abdominal surgery, and at 31 he is starting his decent of his NBA career. That’s not to say we could get a few years out of him but Jaylen is 24, 7 year difference and would much rather roll with the Jays at this point then send a bunch of assets. I am not a fan of this idea of going after Lillard if it means Jaylen. Chances of winning a championship with this option 10%

option 4, the Bradley Beal experiment. No he is not a point guard, but would this be a phenomenal big 3? The answer is yes, and why this trade or sign and trade would make more sense? You wouldn’t have to unload Jaylen. See with the NBA, if you are a free agent you can still sign with the Wizards and be “traded” to the Celtics. If that were to happen the Celtics would just have to match the contract that Beal signs meaning, buh bye Marcus and other roll players and hello Bradley! This one I like a lot because I think you can get some vets to come over and play for the minimum because this would be the best team in the East and I guarantee playing in the Finals come June 2023. Chances of winning a championship with this option, 89%

option 5, Banner 18 Guaranteed Kevin Durant. Do I think he is a baby back bitch? yes I do. But, if he is on our team with Jayson Tatum do I think we win it all, Yup! KD clearly can’t be the alpha, he tried it in OKC and came up short, went to Golden State and road Steph’s coat tails and won championships, tried to do it alone in Brooklyn and failed. So why not go join a young up and coming superstar and let him lead and you just sit in the passenger seat. Don’t forget before he chose to go to Golden State, Kevin came out and said that he would have went to Boston if Golden State didn’t make a midnight offer. So he likes the city, likes the culture, Brad Stevens pull this off build him a god damn statue outside the Garden. I don’t care what we give up in return. The combination of Jayson and KD would be a 1-2 knockout punch. Chances of winning a championship with this option 100%
