A viewing of Major League would do the Red Sox good
Knowing what we know now about the deadline I find it hard to believe anyone can look at the decisions made by the Red Sox at the trade deadline and not be pissed at Scrooge McDuck John Henry and Red Sox ownership. I’ve mentioned this before, but the bull shit PR job they put on us with the Scherzer and Berrios talk was just insulting. Beyond that though, dealing in reality this team could have added real players to bolster the roster and they didn’t because of the money.
Kyle Schwarber and Chris Sale are the deadline answer? Both are hurt and not expected back for weeks. In the mean time you got swept by your division rival and lost 1st place. Honestly, you could have had Rizzo for not much more than you gave up for Schwarber. FanGraphs has Vizcaino, the player moved for Rizzo (plus a lower level prospect) as the 11th ranked prospect for the Yankees. Your 9th ranked prospect is a RHP Thaddeus Young. The Yankees were willing to spend. You weren’t. You’re the Red Sox you can replace a Thaddeus Young. No one is asking for Casas or even Houck.
Shit, You could have had him for less if the Cubs weren’t interested in paying his salary and you were. Maybe, you could have had him for your 22nd ranked prospect in Aldo Ramirez. The guy you moved in the Schwarber trade! But you weren’t willing to pay. It’s insulting. You should be pissed as a fan.
Dan Duffy went for a player to be names later. Duffy, a left handed reliever with a 2.51 ERA. Nice pick up! Oh oops, $15 million salary. Pass. That is just money kids. The Royals actually sent money back in this deal.
Shit, the Gibson and Ian Kennedy deal may have been a stretch with your farm system, but thinking outside the box could have gotten you there. Gibson is young with term. Exactly what you need in your rotation and don’t tell me the corpse of Jay Groome or Bryan Mata or even Jeter Downs are what held you back.
Deals were there to be made with out gutting your high end prospects. This team. This 2021 Red Sox deserved that. Instead they are told management is cautious of the luxury tax because going over is not in the plans right now? What kind of ass backwards way of thinking is that? Name me one team in the history or sports who had a chance at a championship but decided to “wait until next year or the year after when the timing right” that actually won? Does Chaim’s little pocket computer not configure in real time? There’s no promises in the future.
If your Xander Bogaerts with a bum wrist and you watch management and ownership pass on guys that could have helped you because they are cheap what is your motivation to rush back and play hurt? I’ll give you all the motivation you need Xander. Spite.
The Cleveland Indians lead by manager Lou Brown were assembled to be the worst team in baseball so their money grubbing whore of an owner could move the team. Well, what did they do? Instituted a little soft core pornography motivation, killed a chicken, and won the division.
