Stick with a Celtic, not a walking meatball
This Harden block buster deal got me thinking. First thought was that dude is a meatball walking. Second thought, thank god Jaylen came out on fire and made himself untouchable. I wanted and want nothing to do with James Harden. I have said it for years, James Harden will never win a NBA championship. (See Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady.) And those guys don’t hold a candle to Harden’s douchbagery in which he really flashed his true colors the past 6 or so month. But beyond that, Jaylen Brown is a Celtic.
I am not trying to come off all homer and sanctimonious here. The bottom line is there are just certain guys that do well in Boston and like playing for the Celtics specifically. For every Kevin Garnett there is a Ray Allen. When Garnett got to Boston, The Celtics consumed him and Boston Embraced him and they won a championship. Paul Pierce embraced the Celtics and Boston as home. (Yes, he requested a trade at the time they were the worst team in the league after close to 10 years with the franchise. You would too.)
Look, in just 3 short seasons, Kyrie Irving left Boston for a sabbatical of whimsical mystery causes culminating in losing $400K a game and alienating his only friend because Boston wasn’t right for him, Al Horford left because some how he saw a bright future in that trash heap Philadelphia playing ball boy to Embid before getting shipped to the Sahara of the NBA because Boston wasn’t right. Gordon Hayward skipped town because Michael Jordan called him and apparently Gordon Glass believes he is Michael Jordan and should be paid like him which the Celtics wisely choose not to do, or because his wife could only befriend green grocers. Not to mention the secondary characters that have churned through the roster in Danny Ainge’s tenure.
Then you have Jaylen Brown. One of the fastest rising voices in the NBA. Leading Social Injustices charges, becoming a VP for the Players association, and before the season embracing the city of Boston as his home and community.
“I’ve been in Boston for five years, and I’m a Bostonian now in a sense,” Brown said during a post-practice Zoom call with the media. “It’s a major time of my life I’ve spent in Boston now. I’m trying to be a part of the solutions and not the problems here, and trying to see where I can help out because it takes a community, and I’m trying to be a part of this community. I’m definitely trying to get more engaged and see where I can help out the most.”
The kid wants to be great and it seems like he wants to do it in a Celtics Uniform. Don’t fuck with that. Oh and he happens to be one of the best players in the league to start 2021 at 24 years old and his running mate is even better. And younger. In short, to hell with the inefficient meatball. Give me the guys that want to be here. They are the only ones who will actually be able to win. That’s what it takes in this town.
