Belichick rumored to be OUT in New England
Belichick is going home
That’s when Florio casually dropped that extra draft picks could make the Commanders a more attractive destination to whomever Harris hires next, saying, “There’s some rumors out there on the grapevine, there’s some theories out there about potential candidates to take over the team, possibly a coach who we think is going to get fired by the Patriots but might be traded by the Patriots to the Commanders when the season is over. Who knows?” SOURCE
It’s all happening kids. The end is near. If I’m being honest it’s all a little sad. But necessary. Also, it’s far fetched. Belichick and Mac Jones will be Patriots next year. Sorry. But, I’ll play along here. Anything is possible. Lets play the “Why would they do it” game.
Start with Commanders. Why would the Commanders want Bill Belichick as their new head of Football operations? It’s basically a complete rebuild down there. Does Bill have the stamina at 72 years old to rebuild a program in his image? That could take 3 - 5 years. Will it even work in today’s NFL? What the thinking here for the Commanders. Answer? Cache. This wouldn’t be the first time this franshice dipped their pen in Father Time’s ink. Vince Lombardi ended his career in the Nation’s Capital, Mike Shannon gave the Red Skin a whole different meaning in his last tenure as a NFL HC, and they dragged Gibbs back from the land of Busch Light and left hand turns. All to varying degrees of success. I’ve said this all along. Bill Belichick still has one of the highest floors in the NFL. This year is testing that theory, but bare with me. Belichick give Josh Harris a Billion Dollar name for the $6 Billion Dollar franchise Dan Snyder was forced to sell him. Cache all day baby. Create some buzz, establish a culture, and try and find some momentum on the tail winds of Belichick passing Shula on the Washington Side line. I could see it.
Robert Kraft, why would you move on from arguably the greatest coach of all time?
“He lost me Brady.”
- Fair enough. Moving on.. “And drafted N’Keal Harry”
-Okay, thank you Mr. Kraft … “and made Matt Patricia and Joe Judge head of an NFL offense ruining a promising 1st round QB.” “He has a losing record with out Tom Brady. We’re in competition for the 1st over all pick in the draft. He’s an ass. And he drafted N’Keal Harry.”
-Understood
Why would Bill Belichick be interested in finishing his career in Washington?
He’s on the verge of getting fired for one. He may very well need a job. It’s a place that would seemingly give him full autonomy to run it the way he wants. The new owner is like Saudi Rich, so there should be a fat pay check attached. Plus, he won’t have to share the paycheck with his staff because the Raiders will pay Josh McDaniels to OC, the Lions or Eagles can pay Matt Patricia to DC, the Patriots can pay Joe Judge for special teams and he’ll drag his sons down there to fill in the gaps. Belichick has ties to Annapolis with his father being a Navy man. Bill grew up around the area. The one time Red Skins were a bed rock franchise for the NFL for a long time until that snake Snyder got a hold of them. The team will have good draft position and capital to start a new from. There are worse places to be as Bill plays out the string in search of win 348.
Realistically what could the Patriots get for Bill Belichick? It feels cheap to say anything less than a 1st round pick, but I just don’t know if it’s justified. If Florio’s speculation is anywhere close to true you have to imagine the extra 2nd or even just the extra 3rd round pick they just received for Chase and Sweat would be part of the calculation.
Should the Patriots pull the trigger?
My minds telling me yes. But my body! My body’s telling me NO!
Its so hard to say good bye to yesterday.
1 its like a dream come true, 2 just want to be with you, 3 Bill it’s plain to see, you’re the only one for me.
- End of early 2000’s RnB montage to reflect my feeling about putting the final nail in the Belichick - Brady era.
Although we’ve come to the end of the road. I can’t let go.
But I must. Make the deal Bob. Make the deal.
P.S. Kraft won’t make the deal. See ya next season, Bill.
