Boo Sox 2023 - Swept by Pittsburgh!
After a lot of offense (mostly from the top of the lineup) the first three games against the Orioles that have life in them compared to the last five years, the offense mostly fell flat to have Pittsburgh one of the biggest consistent poverty franchises the last few decades. 2-4 to start the season and on their first home stand. Ouch!
Where to begin?
Chris Sale in 8 innings has 10 earned runs.
Corey Kluber looks older than 36 years old.
Bullpen looks a little taxed the first week into the season. And in my opinion have two relief pitchers in the rotation.
THANKS FOR NOTHING CHAIM!!!
Verdugo looks good at the leadoff spot. It seems to work for him and if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Lefty, contact, and at the start of the year he looks good.
Devers is the guy he is expected to be meaning the franchise and looks the part.
Duvall if he stays healthy will be the best move the Red Sox did all year. And even if he doesn’t there is enough outfield depth. Too much in fact (I’ll get to that later).
Then Turner regardless of that HBP accident that looked like he was hurt really bad, he looks solid. Smart approach and finding outfield grass.
After that, Yoshida is still adjusting the the game at this level so his evaluation will be a bit, but nothing to complain about. But the rest, there is much to be desired.
Triston Casas is probably the most interesting because this is the kid that graduated a year early from high school to get a 1st Round draft pick. A player with a 40/45 hitting 55/70 game power and 70/70 raw power scouting rankings (lowest is 20 highest is 80). With only a little over a month worth of games in now two seasons he will need time. Don’t rush him. Only 23 years old (January birthday) and 2020 hurt his development process.
Then this team has no offensive catcher. Don’t depend on either.
Now the bench.
Refsynder is a bench outfield since college that got screwed when the Yankees wanted him to be an infielder and tried multiple positions which all were a fail. He’s been around the league since. Funny how his first hit was a home run hit over the monster as a Yankee and its full circle.
Tapia could be an everyday player so I will leave it alone. Any outfield injury and he’s the everyday outfielder at that position.
Now, it’s thin.
Chang can’t hit. He is late defense in the middle infield. Waiver wire guy. Hate to say it but it is what it is.
Arroyo. Man. What a prospect fall from grace. From promising in Tampa to can’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. NEXT!
This team is scary to fans. Especially the fans that are paying for higher ticket prices to see their what could have been all time great shortstop leave, rotation mediocre at best, a bullpen that will be taxed all year, and a GM that has his head ostrich into the ground.
Chaim Bloom, buddy, this isn’t Tampa. This isn’t Oakland. Not any piece of garbage establishment. It’s the Boston Red Sox and you haven’t acted like it. This is one of the most powerful and big bully franchises not in just MLB but all of sports. And you’re treating it like a non-profit. Anyone counting down to when he’s out of here?
