Zeke is a Patriot

There seems to be one way to turn moral around here in New England after a sloppy start to the preseason. The one lone bright spot that fans were talking about was Lamar Jackson 2.0, Malik Cunningham.

So what could get the blood pumping for us going into this season, signing Eze Elliott to a 1 year $6 million dollar deal ($3 million base salary, a $1 million signing bonus and can be worth up to $6 million with incentives - Adam Schefter). A prove it type deal in my opinion for the 28 year old that was only linked to 3 teams for the past 3 weeks. The Jets and Cowboys were the other teams.

So what does this mean for the Patriots and why did we sign him?

First, bringing in Zeke will help with the blocking. After watching and hearing all the reports on how bad this offensive line is, it will put a bandaid on it with a blocking running back like Zeke. He is one of the best blocking running backs in the game today.

Second, after flashes of excellence last year Rhamondre Stevenson fizzled towards the end being the featured back in that run heavy system Matt Patricia had last year. Having a that 1-2 punch of Stevenson and Elliot will be a great have in the red zone. The one year deal may make Zeke try to out play Stevenson to show the league that he still has it. Check + for Bill on this one.

Lastly, Bill failed at drafting not 1, but 2 running backs. Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris were both drafted last year in what looked to be replacements for Damien Harris who has since moved on to Buffalo. After seeing that abysmal play by both against Houston and now this signing, Bill is officially waving the white flag on both 2 year running backs that more than likely will be put on waivers and hopefully end up on our practice squad.

Patriots fans shouldn’t be happy with this signing and instead be discourage that once again Bill made terrible draft selections and instead of that salary it could have been used to bring some more help to an already depleted offensive line. Either way, I can see why Vegas has the Patriots over under for wins at 6.5.
