Mac Jones doesn’t stand a chance with Belichick in charge
Troy Brown, Wes Welker, Randy Moss, Rob Gronkowski, Julien Edleman, Keashawn Boutte. One of these things is not like the other.
I’m pretty sick of the narrative that Mac Jones needs to start winning close games against good competition. He needs to elevate his dog shit group of receivers. Tom Brady, if that’s who we are forever going to compare Patriots QBs to, rarely if ever succeeded with out at least one elite or boarder line elite pass catcher. The 1st dynasty was built on defense, but even then Troy Brown was arguably the best slot receiver in the NFL or the most reliable and David Givens was underrated. I’d take both of those guys over every single WR on the Pats depth chart right not. Belichick has left Mac Jones with a heaping pile of zeros striving for mediocrity.
Belichick should be stripped of all GM and coaching duties that is associated to WR’s. Period. Why was Mac Jones throwing to 6th round rookie Kayshawn Boutte to save the game on Sunday? Because their “#1 receiver”, who was just granted a 3 year extension, couldn’t get on the field for week 1! Again and oft injured Devante Parker is no savior either. It’s not like we’re waiting for Jamar Chase. JuJu is out of shape, hurt, or benched because he ran the wrong route the last 4th down. Kendrick Bourne can’t lock in 1 WR position never mind asking him to learn the outside X position. Second round pick Tyquan Thorton? Should have been cut. So… Kayshawn fucking Boutte.
Jamar Chase, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Stephon Diggs, AJ Brown, Keenan Allen, Justin Jefferson, Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley, Ceedee Lamb, all of the top 10 Qbs in the NFL have at least one and mostly two high end WRs. Mac Jone’s 2nd season needs to be completely thrown out. He has been a top 10 QB his rookie year and looks like one again in 2023 in spite of Belichick’s in ability or unwillingness to invest a single morsel of money or talent in the offensive skill position group. And even when he does (N’Keal Harry, Nelson Agholor) he sucks at it.
So, although I think the narrative that Mac Jones needs to be better in spite of the shit odds he’s been consistently handed, I agree with it if the Patriots have any chance of making the playoffs. Go Mac! In spite of Bill.
