Jaylen Brown was the best part of the 2021 Celtics
I wrote this the night the Celtics’ season ended so I need to update the title:
Other than the organization being completely flipped upside down and pointed in a new direction, Jaylen Brown was the best part of the 2021 Celtics
I think we forget how much of a leap Jaylen made from the bubble to the season. Which was like a fart and a wink in time.
We now think of Jaylen as a 25 point a night All-Star with out really giving a second thought. That is not what he was the season before. Yes he had potential and he had nights where he went off. But, the 2021 season saw him take his offensive scoring ability to a completely different level. For most of the season he was your best and most consistent player. We are happy for him making his 1st All-Star game. Those should be a pretty regular visit for him moving forward.
We all thought we knew what we had with Tatum. A dude with top 10 potential. Lucky for us this short playoff window mostly confirmed that. For me that’s exciting because of the Jaylen Brown piece. Jaylen’s ceiling has been rising every year in the league. Last year he was boarder line a #3 guy on a championship team. A good two way player with grit and upside. He has now cemented himself firmly as a #2 and there no reason to believe he can’t continue to grow.
The NBA is not built for 2 young 20-Somethings to lead a team to a championship so who knows if it will ever happen in Boston with these guys. Im just saying Brown has arrived and the idea of routing for him and Tatum is tantalizing. Of course a lot has to happen on this roster and with in this franchise in the offseason but in regards to this nightmare of a season, Jaylen was the star shining brightest for me.
