You can take the boy out of Duke..

Let me start by saying Jayson Tatum has arrived. He is a top 10 player in the NBA. For a lot of reasons. However, he still has that Dukie Stank. We’ve seen it. The constant bitching at the refs. The lack of hustle to get back on defense. And his petulance behavior when things get tough. That behavior was on full display in the 3rd quarter last night. SIX turnovers from Tatum leading to his team being outscored by 25 points in the quarter.

The series of lazy turnovers at the beginning of the 3rd quarter from Tatum and his body language after buried the Celtics. Jimmy Butler decided to be a bully and shoved Tatum in a locker. He just took it.

Here’s the good news. Where this young man has matured is his response. No other place was this on greater display than game 6 in Milwaukee. He wants to be a star in the biggest moments and he has all of the god given talent to be one. When his head is screwed on tight and is attitude is aggressive and angry Jayson Tatum is the best 2 way player in the game. At this point he is still too easily pushed off his mark.

The entire team follows his lead. I am 100% confident in the fact that the Celtics will bounce back in game 2 of this series. With some adjustments from Ime and and attitude adjustment from their best player the Celtics should win this dog fight in 6 or 7 games. It’s just annoying they have to be pushed to the brink instead of just bringing it from the jump. We will know when Tatum truly meets his potential when he doesn’t have to dig himself out of a locker to get focused. He’ll be the one doing the shoving.
