Top 5: Reasons the Patriots’ offense sucks. AKA Skinny Ray’s Lullaby

Need a sleeping aid? Watch Matt Patricia call an NFL Offense. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

What 1950’s bullshit are we being tortured with?! What a disjointed snooze fest of an offensive unit the Patriots have right now. Let’s get into the five biggest reasons why. But first. A quick look at where the offense sits statistically across the League

PATRIOTS OFFENSE STATSTICS

19th in passing yards

25th in passing TDs

29th in Red Zone

23rd in sacks allowed

13th in rush yards

13th in rush TDs

25th in yards per carry

7th in rush attempts

Not bad eh? The only top 10 category you have is rushing attempts. Clearly stating how much you have relied on the run game. Must be going pretty well right? Nope. middle of the pack at best. On a per carry basis you are hot fucking garbage. Lets talk about this TOP 5: Reasons the Patriots offense sucks

1. Coaching - Design and scheme has been disjointed and broken since July

- Different play book for Zappe then from Mac then from McDaniels then from the summer. There is NO constancy. Patricia is learning on the job. Joe Judge is the guy teaching your QB. The foundation for success is this waterbed of suck between Patricia and Judge.

2. Coaching - Play calling is predictable and ill advised

- The Colts defense were calling out plays before they happened. Evidence in the film is multiple screens blown up.

- There are too many deep routes and not enough crossers to help get guys open and give Mac a quicker decision tree

- ZERO rhythm. There has not been an ounce of Rhythm outside of the no huddle drive in NY in week 8. Beyond that you can look at the Zappe game in Cleveland as the best QB and Offensive game in terms of representing an NFL operation. Why can’t they replicate that with Mac?

3. O-line - Injuries, penalties, and personnel

- Isaiah Wynn is #1 in penalties in the league

- Cole Strange has been benched two straight games. He was out 9 straight possessions against the Colts

- David Andrews hurt. Here’s the big one. Don’t be surprised to see an improvement from Cole Strange when Andrews get back. He is extremely important and will do a lot to fix the line when and if he returns fro his concussion. That doesn’t change the fact that your RT as been trash all season

4. - Mac Jones

- He is in his head. Jittery. Quick to scramble.

- Can he not pick up the offense? Is that offense not good enough and Mac can’t elevate it?

- Because of this his accuracy has suffered. Hard to be accurate when you’re not even sure where of if you should throw the ball

- Attitude was probably an issue to start the year if we are being honest. That could have set him behind. The staff and players not being on the same page plus basically scrapping the zone run shit. Add in the high ankle Injury and it just feels like too much catch up. They have been playing from behind all season trying to work out this offense.

5 - No Yac

- Not enough guys who can catch and run. "Play Makers"

- Myers has been great. But, he almost always hits the deck. Think about it. How long did it take to get his 1st career TD? How many TDs does he really score? Red Zone offense is hard for a reason. If you are relying on throwing the ball into those tight windows for all your TDs it’s going to be tough.

- Hunter Henry drops like a sack of potatoes when wrapped up

- DeVante Parker aka Mr. 50/50 is just that. At least so far. I think he has the capability to take a slant the distance. It took 6 weeks for Skinny Ray to even call that play though

- Nelson Agholor - who?

- Kendrick Bourne, this is supposed to be his specialty, but Patricia put him on the shit list early and nothing has been right with this guy all year. He has to be able to catch it before he can run with it

- Rhamandre Stevenson continues to be the lone bright spot in categories. He has been a pleasant surprise as a pass catching back and we have now all seen his ability to make defenders miss. I will say this. A lot of people are giving him credit for those one handed catches. They are unneccesary. Some one teach him how to extend with both arms while running. On of those oven mit “one handers” is dying to get batted in the air for a pick 6.

So, there ya have it. The TOP 5: Reasons why the Pats offense sucks. I’d like to say it’s fixable but when reasons 1 and 2 are the same walking nut sack of terrible offensive coaching I think it’s going to be hard. The best we can hope for is Andrews straightens out the line and gives Mac enough time to make this a mediocore serviceable unit. Just give the defense a fighting chance to win you the game.
