The Young Guys are Taking Over
The NFL Divisional round has been way more entertaining than Wildcard Weekend. The Bengals and Titans going down to the wire in a slug fest, Joe Burrow getting sacked 10 times and still some how the Bengals win the game. The Titans blow their chance again to make noise in the AFC after getting the 1 seed. The night cap just as good as we could have just seen Aaron Rodgers or the last time in a Packers jersey. He is now 11-10 in the post season, the whole argument about him being put up in the GOAT status needs to be eliminated especially with how many times he’s blown it in big games. Jimmy G just fucked the 49ers with the win and taking them to the NFC title game. But there is a bigger story going on that we need to talk about after this weekend.
We always had these talks, when will we see the next group of young guys come in, the next guys in line after Brady, Manning, Brees, and Rodgers all leave. Well I think this weekend answered those questions for us. Patrick Mahomes we all knew would be the face of the NFL, he has been a starter for 4 years and been to 4 Divisional rounds, won and lost a Super Bowl already. But we never knew who else would be there with him. Well this weekend showed us just who the next group that will be battling it out for years to come. The Bengals have always been the laughing stock of the NFL, the team that should be relegated, haven’t won a Super Bowl and last went to one in 1988. They hadn’t won a playoff game in 31 years but that has all changed, when they drafted Joe Burrow, in his 1st full season he has taken the laughable Bengals to the AFC Championship. In the last AFC Divisional game you have the true faces of the AFC battling it out. Patrick Mahomes who we all know, but across the field you got Josh Allen the man that we all said could never be the guy, the one we would rip on when the Patriots were destroying him the first 2 years in the league. He has a chance now to beat Mahomes and go back to the AFC championship and do something no QB has ever done in Buffalo and that’s win a Super Bowl.
In the NFC we probably watched Aaron Rodgers leave the field as a Green Bay Packer, his press conference after the game pretty much summed that up as well, no addressing his future and needs time to talk to people and his inner circle. Jimmy G on the other hand was suppose to be dealt this past offseason and now he is back in the NFC Championship game. The 49ers didn’t think he was the guy or lead them back to the Super Bowl but here he is, throwing a wrench in the way with Trey Lance on the sideline. If the 49ers make the Super Bowl it will be the most intriguing story lines of the week, Jimmy G and Trey Lance. Finally, today could be the last time we ever see Tom Brady on a football field as a QB. Reports started coming out weeks ago that this could be it for him and now Schefter is reporting that yes indeed Brady’s future after this season could be retirement. All that would be left in the league would be Aaron Rodgers from the fab 4 QB’s of the early 2000’s. We haven’t even mentioned Justin Herbert with the Chargers, the Draft Class of 2021 the league at QB we all thought was going to be weak when those guys retired but looking at the future now, the QB position and the battles will be fun to watch for the next decade.
