The Red Sox need to sign Xander Bogaerts

There has been a lot of hub bub over the extension of Xander Bogaerts. The latest news being the player does not expect any contract offer to come before the start of the season.

Trevor Story was signed this year as one of the top Short Stops on the market. He will be playing 2nd base this year for the Red Sox, but he is also insurance for when and if the Sox decide not to pay Bogaerts. And make no mistake that’s what this is about. Money.

Does Chaim Bloom look at Xander Bogaerts as a $35 million player? Is there enough nerd “value” in that contract for Tampa North? It’s quickly starting to fee like that is not the case. Lets me tell you why they need to sign him, Mookie Betts.

The previous administration could not come to an agreement with Mookie ending in a trade to the Dodgers. Mookie, Bogaerts, Devers, JBJ are all part of core of home grown talent for the Red Sox. If the Sox decide to let Bogarts walk that’s another home grown All-Star leaving Boston in their prime. No Bueno. What does that say to the next generation of guys coming up? We use you for the 6 years of eligibility then when it’s time to finally cash in you peddle them off to the highest bidder.

Not to mention Bogaerts is pretty damn good.

Don’t even start with his defense. His defense is above average and offense more than makes up for any deficiencies. Especially at his position. There are not many guys who can hit 30 HR and 100 RBIs at the SS position.

There are guys like Marcel Mayer and Nick Yorke in the system. First of all there is never a guarantee prospects work out. Second of all there are worse problems than having too much infield talent. Third, when you think of the biggest needs for this team it’s young pitching. Let’s flip some of those infield studs for some top end arms and let Bogaerts, Devers, and Story hold down the dirt for the next 4 or 5 years shall we?

Lastly, Xander Bogaerts has become the face of the Boston Red Sox. He has been a Red Sox since he was 16 years old. He want to be in Boston. He already took a home town discount. Don’t John Lest this one. Chris Sale gets it

If you need one more reason, just think of Bogaerts in a Yankees uniform. Yuck.
