The Red Sox are broke!
This has to be the explanation for the likes of James fucking Paxton and sending Rafi Devers to arbitration again.
So, lets get this straight. John Henry shoots down to Pennsylvania and drops a cool $900 million to buy up one of the Bruins chief rivals all the while the Red Sox watch the slovenly Tigers drop $140 million on a 2nd baseman and we are not supposed to put two and two together?
Look, I’m not saying I think the Sox should have been in on all the guys in this flurry of signings. I think the Robbie Ray and Scherzer deals are ones to stay away from and looking at the money Semien and Seager got I could understand that being a hard pill to swallow when you already have 2 all-star infielders both in line for a huge raise shortly. On the other hand, what the fuck?!
The off season is not over. Chaim Bloom’s cheap ass moves worked out pretty good last year you could say. He had wins with Garrett Whitlock, Renfroe, and Kike. Losses with Martin Perez, Garrett Richards, Marwin Gonzalez and some in between. I expect there to be more moves that trickle in that improve the ball club. I expect Schwarber to be back. It would be nice to see some reports about a Devers extension. Will there be any movement with Bogearts. Hell, maybe JD will be moved for something of value. Because make no mistake this team needs an upgrade. Mostly in the pitching department. Young pitching department.
So, if this is the new reality we are living in as Red Sox fans where John Henry has sent us to the Welfare line to he can line the pockets of Liverpool and Pittsburgh we better see some of the Bloom magic. A treasure trove of unheard of arms better be on their way to the big league club. It’s one thing not to spend to capacity. It’s another not to spend and not win.

P.S. The CBA deadline is mid night tonight. Good chance none of this matters and we don’t have baseball for quite awhile. That’s not all bad news. More on that tomorrow.
