The Quagmire of Marcus Smart
Last night’s Celtics game ended with an exciting finish with the Rookie, 8 Mile aka P-Rabbit, aka Payton Pritchard following up a Marcus Smart miss to win the game. Here’s the problem the only reason this was necessary was because the Celtics yet again let a large lead slip away and even worse yet lost a 10 point lead in 1:17 seconds.
The Worst part still? The final 4 shots for the Celtics came from, Marcus Smart ill-advised drive, Daniel Theis contested lay up, Marcus Smart ill-advised drive, Payton Pritchard game winning put back. How in the actual fuck do Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum not have the ball on every single possession in a close game in the final minutes of the 4th quarter?
So where does the blame lie? Well, for me it’s either Marcus Smart or Brad Stevens. Either Stevens is not calling the end of these games correctly or the players have tuned him out. More likely, in these situations Marcus Smart straps up his 1998 Reebok The Answers aka hottest sneaker on the planet in the late 90’s, black and blue and red on gold hot damn! and goes full Allen Iverson.
To be fair I think Smart has been conscious about his shot selection this year and is allowing the Jays to do their thing all while maintaining his “Winning plays” and defensive prowess at a top NBA level. However, Last night he regressed. Marcus Smart is not “The Answer” he’s “The Quagmire”
