What is the Celtics off season plan
To quote Kevin McCallister after this game 7 loss, “WOOF!”
No heart and no effort from the players and their coach. It looked like the players thought since they got to this point they should have won game 7 without trying. It was a sad and frustrating ending to a season many thought would end with banner 18, instead we are now wondering how this core can get over the hump because they are now in cap jail with a head coach that some think needs help on the bench or needs to look for employment else where. So what now?
I think Joe Mazzulla showed during this playoff run that he needs help. When Damon Stoudamire left to become the head coach of Georgia Tech this team went into a slump. That should have been the first red flag that went up that Joey Mazz can’t do it alone and needs another basketball mind to help out. The defense efficiency went down, the live and die by 3 went stale and I don’t think a lot of the players respect Mazzulla. First step should be getting someone on the bench with Mazzulla. That being a former head coach or a former player that is an assistant that won’t be afraid to tell the players to get their heads out of their ass.
Kendrick Perkins would fit just great.
Grant Williams said during the season that he wanted to make $20 million in free agency this year. Bad part for the Celtics is that they are going to be in cap jail for a while and won’t be able to afford Grant Williams at that price, meaning Grant Williams is as good as gone (sorry Jack). He was the one bright spot of the Heat series, he was a leading scorer but doing everything that doesn’t show up in the score sheet at the end of the game. He will be a role player that will be hard to replace.
Does Al have another year left in him? He will be 37 years old at the start of next season and this past season couldn’t play in back to backs. The treads on the tires are getting thinner and thinner. Do you look to upgrade that tire now or hope you don’t get a blow out midseason. My opinion, look to upgrade because him and Robert Williams can not be counted on. Al is due $10 million this coming season and $9.5 million the next. If he wants to continue playing it may be best it’s somewhere else, in the Western Conference. Sorry Al lovers.
Finally the NBA All Second team, Jaylen Brown. It’s time to rip the bandaid off. Jaylen is a good player but having him and Jayson is redundant, they are the same style of player. It’s time to move on see who you can get. I think this team needs a real point guard, Marcus Smart is not that guy, getting a Damian Lillard or a Trey Young would only help Jayson Tatum.
But like I said earlier you could kill two birds with one trade. Al is getting older, Rob Williams isn’t reliable, why not upgrade at the big man position.
Big man that can shoot that 3 point shot like Brad and Joe love. His name has been in the trade rumors. Send out Jaylen for KAT. Hell you tried Jaylen and it just isn’t working out, you need to change it up. But we all know what will happen, NOTHING THEY WILL JUST RUN IT BACK WITH THE SAME SQUAD WITH JAYLEN GETTING THE SUPER MAX. Fuck!
