Should We Be Patient with Mayo and the Patriots

After losing to the Tennessee Titans in overtime 20-17, the Patriots are right back to being the worst team in the NFL. Sitting at 2-7, fans have seen some bright spots from this team. Mainly the play of 1st year Quarterback, Drake Maye. The trade deadline is tomorrow and the Patriots have already sent Josh Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs, due to him not buying in, basically giving him away for nothing in return. The question I have is, should Patriots fans be patient? Does Wolf and company actually have a plan going forward?

With every long term plan, you have goals in place. But when that said plan is fast tracked 2 years sooner because of some entitled douchebag starts a coo to get the greatest head coach fired,

Your plan then gets a bunch of eraser marks on it and gets redone on the fly. That is what is clearly happening right now with this Patriots team. Is it fair to judge Mayo, a guy that never interviewed for the job and was handed the keys like a spoiled rich kid getting his fathers business, not knowing how it works but was on the side watching his dad. No, I guess we still have to wait a year or two to see how he can develop this team. Can we judge Eliot Wolf, to his credit has a father in the NFL hall of fame for architecting some of the greatest rosters in NFL history, similar to Mayo, a guy who didn’t earn the title just was handed the job because Kraft expedited the whole plan 2 years because Bill was mean. No, but again this team is 2-7 and fans have every reason to be upset.

When watching the Patriots at 1pm then watching the 4:25 games it’s night and day. It’s like watching a JV team play and then watching a varsity team play and then saying to yourself, “that is how it’s suppose to look.” That is what it’s like to watch the Patriots this year.

For everyone that will fire back with, “ this is a rebuild!” Well, we have been rebuilding since 2020 when Tom Brady left. We have seen 1 playoff appearance, with zero post season wins. This has been a 5 year rebuild, rebuild of the rebuild that failed with Mac Jones. Patriots fans should be patient with Mayo since it is year 1. But the patient leash is going to be very short come year 2.
