Robert Kraft doesn’t have a plan
When will New England Patriots fans finally see what I’ve been seeing since 2019? For 20 years Robert Kraft has gotten lucky, having both the GOAT for Quarter Backs and coaches. He has been able to skate by being cheap and not addressing holes because both Tom and Bill filled the gaps. Once Tom left we saw that Bill may have gotten lucky with his wild GM plan with not having a pro bowl player drafted in the 1st round since 2012. (Mac doesn’t count. He made the pro bowl because of injuries). Now that Bill Belichick is gone everyone will see that old man Kraft is way over his head and has zero clue on how to run a team.
A few bad years in a row sent out the future first ballot hall of fame coach, Bill Belchick, to explore a new coaching gig and for 24 years Robert Kraft has never had to go through a whole front office and coaching change at the same time, until now. What did he do to replace the legendary coach? Did he have countless interviews with some of the brightest young coordinators in the league? Did he go through the college ranks and see who is out there and interview them? Did he interview anyone? NOPE! Robert Kraft did none of that, instead he hired Jerod Mayo who has ZERO head coaching experience. He just gave him the keys to Foxborough. WHAT ARE WE DOING ROBERT? News broke today from Phil Perry that not only are they not interviewing head coaches but they aren’t going to interview General Managers either. Instead they are going to keep Matt Groh and Eliot Wolf on board in the front office and have more prominent roles in player personnel.
What this all means is that Robert Kraft is putting all his poker chips in the middle and saying Bill Belichick messed up the last 4 years. Fixing everything that has been wrong the past 4 years means eliminating Bill and now we are back to being the dominant New England Patriots. As a fan I hope he’s right, but a fan with a brain can tell you that this looks disorganized and lazy. If Mayo and this front office can’t deliver than the 37 year old Mayo will be looking for a new job come 2027. By then hopefully Jonathan takes over and has a plan to get this thing back on the rails. For now we will be mediocre and just trying to stay a float in the power hitting AFC.
