R.I.P. 2021 Boston Celtics
Jaylen Brown is out for the season. Not that his return was going to be some savoir for arguably the worst Celtics’ season since 24 wins in 2006. It’s just the absolute nail in the coffin. It blows. I really like Jaylen. I like watching him play. I actually enjoy watching the Celtics play even when they suck.
The Celtics’ best line up of Kemba, Smart, Brown, Tatum, and Rob Williams played a whopping 7 games together this year. If, a big if, they were able to string some games together in the playoffs, maybe, a big fucking maybe, the C’s could have made some noise. Hell! Should have made some noise.
Isn’t that what this season was all about? Expectations and the failure at meeting them. WE ahve all spent the entire season trying to make sense of this team’s ups and mostly downs. The pathetic effort night after night. Under Brad Stevens this is just not how the Celtics play. Or at least it hasnt been. Even in 2019 in the midst of the Kyrie melt down they looked more inspired and connected than this year.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
So where to go form here? You would be pretty hard pressed to find a Celtics fan who doesn’t believe something needs to change. Most are screaming for Brad or Danny’s head or both. Who absolutely deserve blame. I give Danny a bigger piece of the pie, but he aint going anywhere if he doesnt want to. This is the first “bad” or dissapointing year really in his career. For sure his arrow has been leanbing down recently after Kyrie neutered him, but he’s not the biggest problem. Yet.
For the fire Brad people, I hear you, but he’s not the biggest problem either. Although sacrificing him may be the solution. That’s just how it tends to work in that league unfortunately.
No, the problem is the players. You are professionals. It’s not up to the coach to give you a Ra Ra speech and slap you on the ass every night to get you to play 100% for 48 minutes. That’s bullshit. So what changes should be made? Although I think Tatum is the main contributin gfactor to why the Celtics play the way they do (front runners) you simply do not trade a 23 year player who drops 50 regularly. You just have to hope he matures and grows into the role. I’m out on trading Jaylen Brown for the same reason to a lesser degree. Plus I think Jaylen has some of those leadership intangibles there is just some shit getting in the way. That some shit is Marcus Smart.
I’ve been done with Smart’s faux tough guy/ leader bulls hit for awhile. Marcus Smart is not the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics. You know how I know? He can play as hard as anybody out there and no-one gives a shit. He is not infectious. He does not inspire. Because although he is tenacious at times as a player he is completely full of shit and it’s clear his teammates see through it.

Marcus Smart is where I start in terms of the chemistry shake up. And if Stevens needs to be a part of that I won’t argue. I’ll just tell you it’s not happening. Wic loves him and owes him a fuck ton of money. So, bye bye Marcus. And bye bye to the 2021 Celtics. You’ve taken years off of my life.
