Drake Maye was not as good as you think

The Patriots lost to the Titans on Sunday and now have the #1 over all pick in next year's draft. News flash.,that sucks. The conversation around Drake Maye willing this team to relevance is ridiculous and short sighted. The Patriots are much closer to being the latest team to ruin a promising young QB than the team that is propelled to greatness than that same Young quarterback.

Drake Maye contributed for all but 15 yards of the office in the loss to the Titans. He contributed to all of the exciting plays, which there were a number of most coming from his legs.
I understand the quarterback position has been a gaping hole of suck since Belichick and Kraft let Tom Brady walk out the door, but the stat line of 29 for 41 206 yards one touchdown and two interceptions is as mediocre as you can get.
His 95 yards rushing is great. It's exciting. It keeps this offense somewhat competitive and at least a little bit watchable, but it's not what I need for my quarterback .

I like Maye. I like him a lot. I think he has great demeanor and tremendous skill. We knew he was raw coming into the league. We know he has room to grow and will have to if he wants to become a great NFL quarterback. Right now, his shortcomings are masked by how bad the Krafts have allowed their franchise to get. That's a mistake. It's a mistake every loser franchise fan base makes when they draft a quarterback high and believe he is their savior.

Drake needs to be assessed on his play without a curve. On Sunday it wasn't good enough. Yes, I know offensive head coach Alex Van Pelt sucks. Their offense sucks. There roster sucks and he’s a rookie. It is completely unfair and ill advised to put as much pressure on Maye that the Patriots are putting on right now. He is quite literally or very, possibly the only good thing happening for the New England Patriots.
But three turnovers is three turnovers and he should've had more. I don't even give them full credit for the gametime touchdown. Lot of luck involved there. Lot of luck was needed, because there was nearly zero execution everywhere on the field. I care about what this team is going to look like moving forward and what can they build on. Dumb shit luck does not fall into either of those categories.

If you're gonna lose every game, let's try and not create terrible habits for a rookie quarterback, can we? Develop him the “right way”? Let's get an offense that looks like a NFL offense that is on time and on schedule with a balance attack and doesn't require our quarterback to run for 100 yards a game and get the shit kicked out of him. Let's teach this kid how to manipulate a defense and find the easy yards not run around the backfield for 25 seconds and toss a duck in the air praying for an outcome. This will probably take a change in offensive coaching which generally is a death sentence for young QBs. A story for another day.

A lot of, if not, most of Sunday vs the Titans was not Drake's fault. He was a main reason why they were even in that game, but he also did not play all that well as an NFL quarterback. I’m just sayin’.
