Names to look at if Kraft is shopping for a new offensive coordinator
It’s no secret, the Krafts are looking around for either a new offensive coordinator or someone to come in to help further develop Drake Maye.
When your offense ranks:
32nd- 271.1 yards per game
32nd- 156.8 passing yards per game
22nd- 114.3 rushing yards per game
31st- 16.0 points per game
This is a fireable offense for any team. Some of Patriots nation think that Alex Van Pelt is doing a good job for what he has on the roster, WRONG! This is horrible and if Drake is the franchise guy, you need someone a lot better at calling plays. I can guarantee that the Krafts will bring in someone next year to replace or help Van Pelt. Here are 4 names to watch out for.
•Brian Daboll
IF the Giants fire Brian Daboll, the Patriots should be the 1st team to call and do whatever it takes to come here.
Jerod Mayo is a defensive minded head coach, in my opinion, has ZERO clue about the offensive side of the ball. Bringing in Daboll will let Mayo worry about the defense and special teams and having a former HC (don’t give me Ben McAdoo is here, he’s an idiot) on the sideline will not only help Drake Maye but help Mayo as well to get him better at the head coaching position. 2 birds 1 stone, and he will probably be free with the Giants paying his salary IF he gets fired.
•Zac Taylor
I’m sure when Rich proof reads this he’s going to say I’m an idiot. Cool. Zac Taylor is still the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals but like Daboll, could be fired at seasons end. Is Zac Taylor a good head coach, hell no! But, he is apart of the Sean McVay coaching tree. Which in the NFL is the golden ticket to get any offensive job in the NFL now. Like Daboll, IF the Bengals fire Taylor at the end of the season, he would come in for free. The Krafts love the word free. Taylor was the QB coach for the Rams when they went to the Super Bowl and Jared Goff had his best statistical season (until now) and had his most passing yards of his career with 4,688 yards and 32 touchdowns. Not to mention, Taylor has worked with a top 5 QB in the NFL for the past 5 seasons.
3. Chip Lindsey
A reunion for Drake Maye with his college offensive coordinator? The NFL is evolving more to a college offense, bring in a college minded offensive coordinator that has worked with your franchise QB before and knows what he is good at and likes to run. Lindsey has never coached in the pros and obviously he would have to adjust to that with calling in plays. If Drake wants a reunion the Krafts should make the call.
•Shannon Dawson
The best offensive team in college football is the Miami Hurricanes and Shannon Dawson is the master mind behind it. Like Chip, Shannon has never coached at the pro level but what he has done as a coordinator is impressive and shows he is not a one trick pony.
While the OC for the University of Houston he coached Clayton Tune (who?)
2020- 15 TDs 2,048 yards 10 INT
2021- 30 TDs 3,546 yards 10 INT
2022- 40 TDs 4,074 yards 10 INT
He is now working with a Heisman Trophy finalist and probably the 1st overall pick in next years draft, Cam Ward.
From every eye test Patriots fans have had for Drake Maye, everyone agrees he’s the guy and the franchise. Now surround him by 1 of these coaches and I think year 2 could be very good for him and the Patriots.
