Red Sox Fans Slammed by Yet Another Offseason Bait-and-Switch! A Billion Dollar let down

I couldn’t take a leak the past few weeks with out reading or hearing about how “IN” the Red Sox are on Juan Soto. Nobody would shut the hell up about it. The Sox are finally back in the spending market in big way! Juan Freaking Soto is about to get Shohei money and he can’t even pitch. He barley plays the field, but the Sox are finally spending again! Lets go! The latest rumor was not only would the Red Sox be signing Soto to a record breaking deal, with NO Deferrals mind you, but they would also trade for Vlad Guerro Jr. to pair with Soto and Devers making an Avengers style middle of the lineup to the tune of over a Billion Dollars in contracts.

First of all. Bullshit. Of course bullshit on the Guerro nonsense. But, maybe if you wanted to believe the Sox thought they needed a splash both on the field and off you could talk yourself into the Soto deal. Welp, instead in all their infinite wisdom, Craig Breslow and co hit us over the head with the whopping signing of 36 year old Aroldis Chapman. What a hum dinger. About 10 years late on that one guys.

It’s not even 10 years late, really. Outside of a couple flashy seasons with the Yankees and Cubs a decade or so ago this fuck has bounced around the league mediocrely causing headaches where ever he landed. Most recently in the land of baseball make believe and obscurity, Pittsburg where put up a 3.7 ERA in 61 innings with 14 saves. He did strike out Manny Machado with 105 mph fastball though, so…

This is not about Chapman. Although he is a weird piece of shit lets not forget:

2015, when he was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute in which his girlfriend accused him of pushing and choking her. During the incident, Chapman admitted to firing gunshots in his garage. While no charges were filed because of insufficient evidence, Major League Baseball conducted its own investigation and suspended him for 30 games.

After a 2022 season of struggles, he was not guaranteed a spot on the postseason roster. In response, Chapman skipped a mandatory workout at Yankee Stadium before the ALDS against the Guardians, choosing instead to stay at his home in Miami.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Aroldis Chapman has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount for "inappropriate actions" during Monday's game against the New York Mets

He went on the injured list again in August due to an infection that developed when he got a tattoo.[68]

Aroldis Chapman horrified most people on social media on Wednesday, when he posted a video of him laughing and groping his mother, but Cuban baseball reporter Alfre Alvarez told NJ Advance Media “it’s normal to do it in Cuba with your mother and grandmother as a joke.”

I digress. This is about the bait and switch job we have seen all too often in Boston. The kings of “interested” are the Red Sox. In on everybody and land no one. Last year was a tipping point. Teoscar Hernandez signed with the Dodgers for double the offer the Red Sox put out there. Yoshinobu Yamamoto signed with the Dodgers for 12 years at $325 million. The Mets and Yankees offered $300 million. The Red Sox claimed to offer the same, but won’t talk about it and many believe they came in way under that number. Fellow Japanese pitcher, Shota Imanaga signed with the Cubs for 4 years and $53 million. The Red Sox offered two years. Jorge Soler went to the Giants on a 3 year $42 million dollar deal watch his homeruns gets knocked down by the bay instead of sailing over Pesky Pole.

The point is the Red Sox were loud and proud in the public of their pursuit of these players. When they failed to acquire them they tried to convince the fans they were being fiscally responsible. The same team that had nine different executive refuse to even interview for the Red Sox GM job, tried to convince us it’s not a me it’s a them problem.

Why should we expect any different now? This team is still owned by John Henry and his Fenway Group. The Same investors with interest in the Pittsburgh Penguins, Liver Pool, the NBA Vegas team, PGA, and whatever else is on their spread sheet. John and Lebron are watching the bottom line and all Juan Soto does for them is raise ticket prices in Pittsburgh.
