Jayson Tatum’s historical All-Star performance guarantees a Championship

Four of the last five All Star MVPs have made the NBA Finals. Two of those four won the Championship. It would have been three of four if KD’s achilles didn’t explode. Those are called odds and the haters can suck on em.

The only year the All Star MVP didn’t make the finals was 2020 - Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi was widely considered the best player in the league coming off the season before in which he dragged the Raptors to a championship and dethroned the Warriors. If you have forgotten, 2020 was also the year the entire world got sick and almost 7 million people died. They called it Covid-19 or the China Virus depending on what color hat you wear.

Covid is the best excuse Doc Rivers has for one of the THREE playoff series’ he blew a 3-1 lead. Anyway, the point is there was a lot of shit surrounding Kahwi that year and in any normal circumstance he probably gets back to the Finals. Because, what the All Star MVP essentially has become is an anointment of the best player in the league. The other guys on the list the past five years?

- 2022 - Steph Curry

- 2021 - Giannis

- 2020 - Kawhi

- 2019 - Kevin Durant

- 2018 - Lebron

AND coming in with your latest Kobe Bryant Kia (make sure not to forget the sponsor) award, from your Boston Celtics, is Jayson Tatum!

Tatum’s 55 points is an All Star record breaking Anthony Davis’ mark from 2017. Tatum finished 20 of 31 from the field, including 10 of 18 from the 3-point line. In addition to his 55 points, he added 10 rebounds and six assists.

I am not one to put a whole ton of stock into these glorified pick up games. You know who agrees with me? Jaylen Brown

By the way Jaylen dropped a measly 35 points (16-27 FG, 3-12 3Pt), 14 rebounds, five assists and two steals in 25 minutes. Including dropping a couple bucket in Tatum’s eyeball. Speaking of Tatum he’s someone who does care about this All-Star game and that bodes well for us Boston fans. See ya in June.

"It means the world," Tatum said of setting the scoring record. "You think of all the legends and great players that have played in this game, and in all honesty records are meant to be broken. I'll hold it for as long as I can, but I'm certain somebody will come along in a couple years and try to break it."
