Mac Jones is on the hot seat
"I don't think Bill appreciated the way that Mac handled some of the stuff last year," Breer said. "There's a way that I think Bill thinks a franchise quarterback should conduct himself. And for the most part, (Tom) Brady did conduct himself that way. I think there were certain things in the way that Mac handled his second year as a pro that Bill didn't appreciate.
"I think they would," Breer said. "Internally, I don't know if they see this massive gap between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. I'm not saying they think Bailey's as good as Mac, but there was some element of Bailey doing what he was coached to do last year that I think gave Bailey the edge to some degree for a little while there.
"So I think it'll be interesting to see what would happen if a real offer came along. I don't think a real offer is going to come along, but it'd be interesting to see what would happen if a real offer did come along." SOURCE
Excuse while I clear my throat. (Bullshit!). Classic Belichick move here. Was Bill urcked with Mac last year? I’m sure he was a bit. Mac allegedly went outside the organization for help with the offense. Usually a big no no, but Belichick is far from stupid. He understands or at least came to understand that he saddled Mac with the walking nut sack of offensive coordinators in Judge and Patricia. The frustration, anger, angst, disbelief, dumbfoundness, fury that Mac and the rest of Patriots nation felt at the mere thought of Skinny Ray holding the offensive play sheet was more than justified.
Bill gets that, but he also likes to run a tight ship. The hierarchy is important. There are reports that MAc essentially split the locker room last year. At least the offensive side. Rumblings from McCourty and Slater about the disapproval in how Mac handled the on field muther fucking of his coaches were heard. They were able to ward off a full fledged mutiny, but Bill has to get his locker room back in lock step.
Billy O’brien will be the main reason for the offense falling back in line, but I’ll take a side of classic Belichick ribbing if that keeps Mac in the gym and bumps him up to the next level.
Lets entertain this idea of a trade for a second. Two questions.
What can you get for Mac Jones?
Who would replace him?
The Raiders seem to be everyone’s favorite to land Jones. It makes sense. The familiarity with McDaniels and his system. Derek Carr is out. Would McDaniels want a more veteran QB for job security?
Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are badly in need of a QB upgrade with Ryan Tannehill likely to be a cap casualty and Malik Willis not showing much in his starts during his rookie season. The team was rumored to be a possible option for Tom Brady if he hit free agency. Maybe trading a third-round pick for the current New England Patriots QB can get the Titans the upgrade and long-term signal-caller they are looking for. SOURCE
The Giants and Bucs are other teams in the rumor mill. Of all the rumors I’ve seen a 1st round pick in return has not been mentioned. Mac Jones was drafted 15th over all. If the Pats can’t at least score a late round 1st that’s called taking a loss on your investment. Another reason for keeping the young Alabama QB.
Never the less. Lets play along. He’s pushed Bill to the edge and the Patriots are willing to take a lesser package in return. Call it the Vegas deal. Who’s going to play QB for them? Bailey Zappe? That fever would drop faster than Dr. Big Mac in an endurance race.
The Packers are fed up with the witch loving hippie Aaron Rodgers. We have to wait until he removes himself from the closet to find out if he wants to play football still. That’s not a gay joke. Rodgers is on something called a darkness retreat. It’s as dumb as it sounds.
Jimmy G! Old fragile bones is back on the market. The one that got away. On the surface this wouldn’t be terrible. He’s 31, a proven winner, familiar with New England, and I’m sure he and Belichick are still besties. The problem is this guy hates to stay healthy and hates rehabbing quickly even more.
If you’re in the trade Mac camp give me an example of the veteran who is going to come to New England next year with an inflated salary and bring this franchise back to the Super Bowl conversation. That is the only reason to move on from Mac Jones right now. Last year was a dysfunctional shit show. The organization owes it to Jones and themselves to use this as a prove it year and see what they have with their 3rd year QB. Belichick knows that.
