Pros, Cons, and Observations from Week 6. Patriots vs. Texans

Editor’s Note: I’m happy you’re happy about Drake Maye looking like a function NFL quarterback. I understand it has been awhile since we’ve seen that around here. I get we are grading on a curve. I like him too. But, he did Elliot Wolf and company no favors on Sunday. Drake Maye is about to expose how awful this team is in every other aspect other than quarterback. In the long run that should be a good thing. It should weed out the true garbage a bit faster. It you let this ownership off the hook for hiring a GM, Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, and Special Teams coordinator who all cumulatively had ZERO minutes of experience in their positions, you are a weak fool. And if you let these rookie coaches and managers off the hook, be gone with you I say! Until the garbage is taken out we’re about to see a lot more 41-21 losses instead of 24 - 10 losses.

PROS / CONS / OBSERVATIONS from Drake Debut in a week 6 loss.

Pro- Maye looks like he can play.  He showed poise throughout the game.  He looked calm and under control.  When he is protected the ball comes out on time.  He showed off the arm and ability to run. Showed toughness and a good mentality shook bad plays off.  There were mistakes; off target at times but the ball got there. Needs a better pocket feel at times especially with the tackle play.  tendency to throw high, 1st pick.  Second, pick a tip drill.

1st career start for the rookie class. And their week 6 performance.  We can see the growth.

How did the regime do bringing him along ?

 Maye's first start 20/33 243 yards 3 TD 2 INT 38 yards rushing.

Caleb Williams- 14/29 93 yards 0 TD 0 INT,  Week 6 performance 23/29 226 yards 4 TD 1 INT

Jayden Daniels - 17/24 183 yards 0 TD 0 INT, 88 yards rushing ,  Week 6 performance 23/34 289 yards 2 TD

 Bo Nix-26/42 138 yards 2 INT ,  Week 6 performance 19/33 216 yards 2 TD 1 INT 61 yards rushing

Observation- They thought the game started at 2:00 pm, instead of 1:00pm.  Whoops.  Disaster First quarter saw the defense get shredded for 2 long TD's drive and Pats go 3 and out then a pick.  Defensive plan from onset was totally off base.  Every play then ran was a success. Definitely some nerves for Maye coming out of the gate.  The second quarter was a different story. Defense made adjustments and didn't give up points. While the Pats offense gained traction culminating in a 50 yard TD to Boutte to end the half in a 2 minute drill by Maye.  First career TD for both, no chance Boutte ever sees that ball.

Con- The defense is not good enough through a 60 minute game.  They have periods where they can compete and get stops.  Poor coaching to start games and halfs consistently no feel for what the team will do next.  They just don't have the players to get the consistent pressure to disrupt the QB enough. If the blitz doesn't get home there are guys wide open.  if they rush four it's all day back there for the qb.  run defense lets more swinging dicks through than Irene.   Gonzalez had a bad day with Diggs.

Observation- This team is still completely undisciplined.  PENALTIES and dumb mistakes still plague the team.  REFs were awful and had multiple bad calls on the pats.  FACE MASK and pass interference calls.  9 penalties for 50 yards most of them of the drive killing variety.  They are not good enough to make mistakes and win.  Been a 3 year problem now for the team even with Belichick.

Con-  Injuries on the line are nuts.  Tackle play is god awful.  3 practice squad players at center and tackle.  Achilles heel of the team.  Will be the reason they pick in the top 5 again this year.   Looked better at times with Maye quickly releasing the ball.  #1 issue to address in the offseason.  Criminally negligent job by Wolf fuck this guy.

Rant: I was right.  He should have been groomed from the beginning to play.  Dumb plan.
