I will eat crow
Week 1 is in the books for the New England Patriots and I will officially go on record and say, I will eat crow. Richard and I have been going back and forth, Richard of course is Captain of the Mac Jones fan club. As for myself, well I just didn’t see it after last years abysmal season of injuries and trying to get his coaches fired. Sorry just didn’t like it.
In my opinion this is his make or break season and when he was the only one left on the depth chart after the Patriots released Malik Cunningham and Bailey Zappe I thought for sure Mac once again, the spoiled rich kid, got his way. But after 15 minutes in to week 1 I thought for sure I was right about Mac.
Not Mac’s fault but a pick 6 does go down as the quarterbacks fault in the stat sheets. So as this was happening I had to let my good pal Richard, captain of the Mac Jones fan club, know what exactly was going on and…… he was not happy.
After a salty text exchange I went radio silent. Never kick a man while he is down. But once I did that something changed, for the next 3 quarters Mac Jones looked like a Good NFL QB. He threw for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns in those quarters and outscored the Eagles 20-11. Did we lose? Yes, but this was night and day better than that product that was on the field last year. Seeing Mac Jones come out and play with fire and not turtling after 14 yards and 1 pick 6 was refreshing. Last season they would have ran the ball 40 plus times after a quarter like that.
The only glaring hole we all see is that Mac needs a play making receiver. Though some of these guys are rookies, this receiving core is just not good. Hopefully someone will be available at the trade deadline because I honestly see this team being a wild card team if things keep rolling the way they are.
MAC JONES IS GOOD!
