Hey Chaim, this aint TAMPA!
Do they not teach under promise over deliver in nerd school? This could be a real rude introduction into the Boston Market for Chaim Bloom. Coming out of this deadline with an injured Kyle Schwarber and 2 more middling shitty relievers is such a kick in the teeth. My ass is still steaming from all the smoke blown up there.
We as fans not but a few weeks ago had little expectation for this deadline because we understood the long term goals of this club and their bare cupboard farm system. But then they had to go running their mouth and all of a sudden the Red Sox are in on every single big name out there. Anthony Rizzo, Carlos Santana, Jose Berrios, Max Scherzer. Of course we are going to start talking ourselves into one or two of these guys coming. This is the Red Sox. They can swing it.
But, this is Boston. We are perpetually negative, so we naturally tampered our expectations. We gave a cumulative “fuck off” when it came to the possibility of snagging Max Scherzer still with one hopeful eye on it, but the more realistic drunk lazy eye on the struggling Anthony Rizzo who the Sox have been in on for a month. And instead we got fucking bumkins. No offense to Schwaboooo, but he’s injured with a hammy and the idea of him stepping in at 1st, a position he has literally never played before, is video game GM bullshit. Otherwise, offense to the bum pitchers they brought in can be handed out accordingly.
The Red Sox needed help at 1st base and reinforcements on the pitching staff. Frankly they filled neither of those needs. All the while your division rivals are snatching up the names you were in on because they don’t believe the Red Sox have the balls to match them or the roster to hold them off in the standings.
Hopefully Chaim Bloom learned a lesson here. When there is an arms race in baseball, specifically your own damn division, the Red Sox need to front and center.
