Giannis has had the biggest swing in like likeability of any NBA star in modern era
On the heels of Giannis acting like a jackass in another loss to the Celtics it has occurred to me. Giannis is a douche. When did that happen? He used to be the model superstar. Now, he’s a prick. His swing in likeability may be the biggest swing we have seen in a long time. For those under a rock, on Sunday Giannis and Jaylen Brown got into an altercation on the court after Giannis elbowed Brown in the head. There were some words exchanged and then Giannis went to dab up Brown but pull the “too slow - too cool” move. Post game Brown called him a child. And he’s right.
Other guys that make the list include LeBron, Kyrie, Paul, George, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook .
But none of them came from as likable place as Giannis. Well, maybe Lebron but that was so long ago and he’s been such a disingenious cunt for so long it’s hard to remember. All of them though, had circumstantial events that helped fuel the hate. Lebron with the decision, Kd with the ring chasing, Paul George talked his way to LA through multiple franchise while underachieving on the court the entire time. Westbrook wasn’t good enough to always kind of be an asshole and Kyrie, well I hate Kyrie Irving and you should too.
But Giannis is the American dream. An immigrant who came from nothing. He made himself into a star in as Midwest town as you can get. He did not jetset himself to Miami the first chance he got. He took the deal to stay in Milwaukee and won a championship.
Then over night it seemed like his whole demeanor changed. No longer humble, let his game stop evolving , stat chasing, doing dumb shit like the Jaylen Brown elbow or fighting the Indiana Pacers for not giving him the ball when Giannis scored 60 points or whatever that cringe worthy douche invested event was about.
He's just turned into a ego centric tool, of which there are many in the NBA, but none came from as humble of a beginning as Giannis.
Its a shame really. Its a shame Giannis went from pretty cool to pretty cunty. Just sayin.
